Operation Flashpoint 2, a true sequel to the million-selling military simulator, is in design and development by Bohemia Interactive. Focussing on another theatre of modern-historical warfare, Operation Flashpoint 2 will introduce 2nd generation Flashpoint Engine for the ultimate military gaming experience with even more realism, freedom and immersion than the original Operation Flashpoint.

*Experience the intensity of modern-historical warfare

*Drive and fly authentic vehicles and aircraft

*Command large squads with plenty of tactical and strategic options

*Play the campaign or solo missions

*Explore large battlezones based on real locations

*Create your own mission and scenarios using intuitive built-in mission editor

*Full multiplayer support

Expected release of Operation Flashpoint 2 is late 2004

I gotta say, the highlight of my FPS gaming career was the first time I nailed a soviet helicopter that was flying at a 90 degree angle 400 meters from me, square on with an RPG, and watching that fucking thing explode in the gratuitous scripted way that OpFlash kills all the vehicles in the game. And it never got old. It's so far from being realistic to be sad, but from that moment, I would never be satisfied with vehicles in games unless you could do that.

Just the THOUGHT of lighting off an RPG in that game makes me giggle. APCs would go up in one hit, so loading up with a few RPGs, you could make some satisfying fireworks. And then there is always the deeply scarring, fulfilling infantry combat. God I love Operation Flashpoint. And I feel bad for people who could never get into it, for whatever reason.

But I am left with the fear that I might not be drawn into the game as much this time. A remote fear, considering how well those Czech bastards did with the game the first time around. The only annoying thing is FADE. Revolutionary copy protection that makes automatic weapons inaccurate...ooh boy. Then I find a better crack and it all goes away. Codemasters would be unhappy with that, but I bought the game anyway.

Better take their time, they never really fixed the first one, witch was almost in an alpha stage when released! I liked it a lot, the good moments of it are amongst my best gaming moments of all time but it also have been one of the buggiest games I ever played!

They announced Flashpoint 2 at like E3 of 2003 and we never heard from it since. The game was so good. Challenging and fun. It was also fun playing a FPS without lag on a 56k. Most games I could only play on the 56k before I got Cable were RTS games. I was able to play Quake 3 for a while but then like my 56k got slower or something and it lagged all the time. Anyway my favorite moment in the game was when I sniped someone in a helicopter. I was on the ground and just got a lucky shot off and nailed the pilot and the heli just started to drop to the ground and it blew up.

well... e3 aint too far off now (may), It's there's quite a chance we'll get to see some first information by then. Afaik they already wanted to show it last year at e3, but then they cancelled the presentation suddenly.

whatever first ofp is my personal favorite, best game. Intense, atmospheric, realistic and yeah it never got old. The game hasn't the best graphics atm, but weird enough it still looks far more realistic than all other war games. There's something to those visuals which make the game so special.

Shall we welcome release of OFP2 on the PC platform first with console ports following later, or have you already started cross-platform development?

We continue to work on the Xbox version of Operation Flashpoint, as well as the PC version of the sequel, that's enough for us to focus on at this moment in time.

Smile no port for this.

Well not exactly pretty, but very realistic as it always used to be. But if theres one game I cared less about graphics then its ofp. When your there, in the middle of a battle, hiding in the forest hoping the bmp in front of you and the hind circling over the forest above don't spot you when you're sprinting to the next bush for cover, you don't give a shit about graphics. Its so immersive you actually forget t the blocky trees and low-res bushes. Definately the best simulation ever made.

Concerning AA; I still hope they're going to implent the dynamic destruction that was seen on old vbs1 videos. And they should finally change the exlosion effects, guess thats something that'll follow in the end, since pics are from WIP. Apart from that, the size of the island sounds sweet as well. Hope we'll get the game soon...

It HAS big maps (hell, the new map in AA is said to be bigger than all old islands together, and the old maps were already huge... Did you even ever play the old game??) . No ubergfx though and ofp definately doesn't need them.
