Anyone played this? How do you carry on the game tutorial after jack goes off to the fight and tells you to meet him upstairs, I'm stuck there and can't get though any door. Sad

Use the blood discipline to boost your skill and lockpick the door at the end of the hallway unless you are already skilled enough to lockpick it without using special abilities.

The lockpick should be on the boxes just after you jump up those shelves near the window where you and jack witnessed that ancient vampire killing of the Sabbat thugs.

Other than that I also recommend the official 1.2 patch and the unofficial 3.8 patch unless you already have them, fixes a ton of problems. Smile

Nothing like that happens. This is right at the beginning of the game just after Jack teaches you to feed of the guy smoking in the ally. Then Jack tells you what kills and doesn't kill you, then there is a noise like gunfire and Jack buggers of and tells you he will meet you upstairs. And that's just it I can't get out of the ally never mind upstairs.

Ahh you mean that the door he stands next to during that sequence doesn't unlock, had that happen a few times but I usually only needed to move around a bit to find the door handle wich allowed me to press the use key and open the door. Smile

Here is the patch.

With this it should be close to bugfree. I didn't notice any when I completed it with an earlier version of this patch.

Okay, that seems to have worked, I installed the 1.2 then the unofficial 3.8 and the door became highlighted. Really good game, shame that I get CTD every few hours of play.
This game has made me thirsty, I fancy something red to drink.

The combat in this game felt very choppy/sloppy but the roleplaying elements, story, and dialog more than made up for it in my opinion.

Such a shame Troika had to close its doors Sad

On a sidenote - anyone remember the big prelaunch party Troika threw for gaming press/journalists before the games release? They went all out and even hired models to pose in vampire outfits to serve drinks while they were playing. The pics still have to be floating around somewhere.

One has to wonder if Troika knew they were going down hill and decided to go out with a bang? Very Happy

The source engine was a bad choice I think. The constant loading really pissed me off, and of course the combat sucked. Still played it to completion though.

Ya I'm not a source engine fan, it has nice models but that's it. Everything else sucks. The melee combat wasn't half as bad as the gun combat was.

Really depends on the developer, Dark Messiah was great (SP) as far as combat goes. MP developer was total shit though.

This game as heart, something sadly missing in today's game making efforts where a army of developers work on different parts of the game then clue it all together in the hope there may be some gameplay in there somewhere.

it wasn't a wrong choice
it was a too early choice
the version of the source engine the game was released with was an alpha build of the engine
unoptimized and buggy
and by the time they started doing the game, there was no script engine in place in source so they integrated python themselves, resulting in slow script execution and thus gameplay performance
and further bugs
it's a miracle the unofficial patches have fixed as much as they have without access to the source code

They used them at E3/GenCon and also during the game's launch party in LA where they rented out a real bar to let the game reviewers play. Great marketing, albeit a bit pricey.

One of the things I hated about bloodlines was design of all male player characters was crap. You had rat one, gay one, gorilla one, rasta one, heck even juppie was there.
