Common

Just install the release to a new folder (not over the previous Dawn of War 2 folder), apply crack and extract this in that folder:
http://www.mediafire.com/?mmwtnum2tti or http://www.multiupload.com/F8UDVMLO3M

After extracting, run from Loader.exe. This will allow you to join MP games of the version 2.1 of the game.

WARNING: Will only work if you have a G4WL key!

Free Preorder Content

I have unlocked the preorder content once again. Very Happy Links:

You don't need to have steam installed for loader method, just required steam dll files.

Care to post exactly which files, and where to put? I tried taking all the DLL files, and still it would crash if not directed to Steam directory.

Steam.dll and steamclient.dll, just put all of them along with loader and its ini file to game dir and play. I don't know if these are some kind of cracked dll's or just copied from Steam folder, coz I got them from a friend.

Nope, didn't work here. I had all the DLLs from Steam in the same dir as DoW2 (and of course the ini pointing at the same dir), and it didn't work.

Hi

Thanks for the precious help iNatan. I really appreciate because the original DOWII thread is really confusing.

I'm using the Vitality release with your Method #2. I did everything correctly however when I click on loader.exe to launch the game I have this error:

No steam_appid.txt detected, the game might not launch correctly...

Is this normal?

If it's the patched files I uploaded then it'll only work with a English installation of DoW 2.

Reason for that is that some specific files for each localization were updated but in order to get those files you'd need to first change your language in Steam and then redownload the language specific files from DoW 2 and they're a bit over a gigabyte all in all so it would take some time for the download to complete though the actual patched content is only four or so MB once compressed in a rar archive or similar but redownloading the data time and time again for each language would take a lot of time and then you would need to redownload the original files again afterwards.

This has to be repeated for every patch that'll be released if Relic changes the voice and sound specific files (And others.) for the available localizations in that patch.

Hopefully the existing packages work as intended, still unsure about savegame compatibility as there's mixed reports from what I can read in the main DoW 2 thread but I'm nearly 100% certain that I got ahold of all updated files so it should work as intended.

Don't forget to grab the bonus stuff while it's available by the way! Smile

EDIT: You need to create a text file called "Steam_AppId.txt" with Steam's game specific number in it, it's mentioned in the main DoW 2 thread, sorry for not remembering it.

You don't have Steam and the loader running simultaneously. Smile

Run Steam, don't bother with logging in or anything but just let the program fully update so that the required files are updated and then use the loader with them to run the game, Steam itself can be closed and doesn't need to be run aside from the occasional software update.

I don't know where or how everyone got the idea that you need steam installed for the game to work with Loader, because you DON'T.

This is what my rev.ini looks like:
Code:
[Loader]

# Specify the name of the application to load.
# You can also specify the command line.
#
ProcName=dow2.exe

# Specify the location of the original steamclient.dll
# which comes with Steam client
# You can comment this line out if the game doesn't use it
#
SteamClientDll=steamclient2.dll

Doesn't work, sorry. Have seen comments on several locations that it doesn't, so it's not only me. Rolling Eyes

Well I used vitality release and it came with a hefty ammount of additional steam dll's, so maybe that's why it works for me.

Hmm, I was talking about the rForce release. Maybe Vitality managed to somehow find the formula of what files exactly to include. Smile

Yep, normally you don't need to have steam installed. It's a no-steam loader, lol. I have a few ideas why it doesn't work with some people, it may happen if the loader can't write to the registry. Maybe one of the thousand problems of needing admin rights, UAC, you get the idea.

Try running with admin rights.

Need a bit of clarification... i have a legit steam account that i don't want to risk jeopardizing. And i'm definitely not gonna bother with a second cracked steam install/blank account, it's too much hassle. So it looks like the loader is the way to go for me. I was wondering though, does anyone know how it works exactly? I mean, is it totally safe, not sending any data to valve? And also, if i already have steam residing in memory with my legit account connected, how would that affect launching the loader? I reaaaly don't want to take any risks.

Started from scratch...

Ok I've reinstalled the game (Vitality) I did everything they told me to do from the .nfo. Then downloaded the patch, extracted to my DOWII folder. Downloaded the hotfix and extracted it to \GameAssets\Archives. Used Method #2 with the loader. Inside my rev.ini I changed dow2.exe and SteamClientDll=C:\DOWII\steamclient.dll . But I still have this error when I start the game from the loader:

Steam Error
Application Load Error: 3:0000065432

I have a "leggit" copy of Steam installed but it's not running...

BTW The game was working fine before the patch.

There is no connection with valve , the revloader is a nosteam solution. (and of course your account isn't used)

Having steam running isn't recommended, although if it happens by accident don't worry about it.

Basically it "lies" to the game that Steam is running. It is safe, but remember to not have Steam running in the background.

It was working because Vitality had a crack on the EXE, and now there is no crack. If you get that error, either you haven't modified the rev.ini file properly, or you have not updated Steam.

Files needed to play without steam installation, works also for FEAR2 and probably for all SteamWorks games, just needs correct steam_appid and ProcName

For DoW2

steam_appid.txt Create this with content
Code:
15620

Loader.exe Comes with loader
rev.ini Comes with loader, edit it
Code:
[Loader]
ProcName=DOW2.exe
SteamClientDll=steamclient2.dll

steam.dll Comes with loader
steamclient.dll Comes with loader
steamclient2.dll Original dll with digital signature (copied and renamed from steam install)

@Tyl3n0L, you get that error because you are pointing it to steamclient.dll which comes with loader, you need to point it to one from steam installation

Application error 3 is because the game's steamstub detects the steamclient.dll as non-signed (DRM)

Edit rev.ini to point to the original steamclient.dll.
Here is the current original steamclient.dll straight from my steam installation :
http://tinyurl.com/dl7agp
(You should rename it)

YES! Finally working. I copied and pasted my original steamclient.dll file from my Steam folder to my DOWII folder and renamed it steamclient2.dll and pointed the rev.ini file to it. It's now working flawlessly without having steam running in the background.

Thanks everyone for the help!
