We have good news for fans of the Syberia adventure game series. Microids has announced the next installment. The game is called Syberia: The World Before
Just played the Prologue, it was quite the mixed mechanical bag. Iffy performance, lip-syncing and mandatory chromatic abomination aside, you can tell that proper efforts were put into the environmental design, with beautiful art-style, music and a Cage-ian controlling system (an improvement over Syberia 3's), but...it's rather baffling to even try to understand where the actual direction is going both in terms of narrative and gameplay.
It all revolves around the easy modern press-a-button cinematic approach, which could work as long as there is a strong story that sustains it, and I'm not sure it's the case here. The two separate storylines don't give the impression of being particularly interesting so far, especially Kate's which feels like playing a B-grade fanfiction reimagined by Twitter's committee. I guess we'll have to wait and see how the final isogame will fare, still, it's clear that the franchise should have just ended with the second game.
