thx guys, was indeed Age of Empires II which was the game i intended. you have to be on the same team with the same colour and be the same race, and it worked a treat

You can do that in both Rise of Nations and Empire Earth II, aswell as Starcraft if you're feeling oldschool.
(And hopefully in Supreme Commander when that gets out  It already has coop through t ... |
