So last night my Bro was coming back from the gym, and was waiting for a bus in a completely public area.
Those from Zagreb will know Importanne Center and how crowded it always is.
this is pic from the place:
He had his headphones on, when a guy pushes him from behind. He calmly asks the guy "what's up?"
The guy rudely tells him, "can't you give me a cig?"
So my bro pulls out his pack, and while he's handing him a cig, the guy sucker punches him in the head. He had a wool hat on, so it softened the blow.
So he hits him back and the guy falls over. Another guy immediately comes at my bro as well, and he managed to deck this guy as well with his heavy sports bag and a punch.
Well now, 3 more guys are coming at him. Luckily at that point, security guards come running and restrain and cuff the remaining three guys.
Not a single bystander did anything. Naturally, my bro was in shock, and basically can't even remember the guys faces, and the security guards told him to go home as they clearly saw he was distressed.
So now we don't know what to do, report the incidents to the cops, not even knowing what the security guys did, or do we let it go. 
He's paranoid now, and pretty much can't even put his headphones on in a public place, fearing these rats will ambush him somewhere.
What a fucking world.

Not to sound rude,but it's easy to say people should do something. Most people are in shock and don't have time to react. They play the situation in their head and by the time they come to a solution,the whole thing might be over.
Also I don't know about other countries,but here if you try to help someone from being assaulted and accidently cause harm to the assailant, you might get prosecuted for excessive use of force.
That's why it's always better to call the cops/guards so you won't get in the middle of it. :/

A girl died last month because she tried to help 2 other girls, who were harassed by this guy. The guy falcon punched her head so hard that she died.

Yeah, Its tough to help, but these were 18 year olds. someone could have at least silently called the cops or something.
However that is not the point of the thread.
Just being attacked like this in a highly crowded area, 10 minutes on foot from the central police station in the capital city, is not something I am used to.
Still trying to think of a reason as well, did they want to beat up a random peer for nothing?
The act itself is very shocking to me. And my father being a war veteran, is probably gonna arm my brother to the teeth now,
which will put him in danger of stabbing someone in self defense and getting in trouble with the law.
And constantly looking over your shoulder thinking these fucks might try to get even for humiliating them.

Is it really? Would you, a father of 3, step in to a fight where 1 guy is mauled by three people? Would you not even for a moment consider what would happen if you got stabbed and died?
There was a case like this in my city a couple of years ago, an 18-year-old guy was in a club and some two blokes started harassing this girl, he just walked over to them and told them to leave the girl alone, they left the club and waited for him near the exit, they stabbed him multiple times in the stomach and he died. :\

It's simple psychology, it's not that people are not willing to help at all (and perhaps, in better circumstances they would if they had an advantage- like if they had a weapon or a tazer on them, for example), it's just that before acting they think about their nearest family and what would happen if something was to happen to them- and most of the time in the seconds it takes for a human to think it over either somebody else already stepped in or the whole thing is over and it's too late. I've had a course in crime psychology in my Uni and it was basically the gist of it.

When the alternative is watching someone else getting beaten to no certain end, what's there to think about? They don't matter because I happen to have children? I'd consider what the person on the ground is feeling when nobody is helping

Get involved, here in Scotland, in any fight, and you'll be knifed and dead within seconds, at least in my area. Helps if your face is 'known', then you'll just get cut, if you dare to 'interfere' that is 
The mentality goes something like this...
If I was 2 minutes late or early, then I wouldn't have seen him/her getting killed anyway, so I'll carry on with my shopping.
And when the Police are called, and are seen as a witness, you say the above, regardless of what you really saw

This is a real issue.. in second world countries like ours, with criminality that is so broadly diffused, you're not allowed to defend yourself, or you risk to face a worse sentence than the aggressor himself. A while back a friend found a thief (armed with knife) in his house when returning from a party, somehow managed to lock him up inside the storage closet, and when the police arrived, they wanted to charge him with kidnapping.  
Obviously all these low-level criminals don't even see the jail, they get released instantly and the circle continues until someone dies.
Give your bro a hug, what happened to him sucks and can somehow taint his life (surely his serenity) :/. He was damn brave though, good genes! |

go to police, fast and get them to get the security cam footage .... its a mall there is cams for sure but the video isnt stored for ever so hurry the fuck up and get police to get the tapes and get that scum behind bars asap
