Tomorrow morning, Microsoft will kickoff its keynote at 9AM PT / 12 PM ET on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at Microsoft's Redmond, Washington headquarters.

The keynote, which will last a couple hours, is expected to be packed with everything from a new browser to possibly some prototype hardware.

Dubbing the event -- or at least the keynote -- as "Windows 10: The Next Chapter," Microsoft put up a page where people can access the webcast below.

Windows 10 is a massive release for Microsoft as it will span desktop, phone and even Xbox as well. With so many moving parts, getting all orgs aligned for this release has been a task of colossal scale.

With that being said, what are you looking forward to seeing tomorrow?

So they're still doing that?

I'm not looking forward to anything, though I am curious if Spencer lives up to his lofty claims for PC gamers.

Unfortunately, yes.

This is the way its going to be from now on, all cross platform shit, and I have decided that there is not a lot can be done about it, IMO, so we move on, and just ignore/disable what one does not need. Likewise for all the rest of the nonsense, Cortana, Spartan included.

Once 'Facecrap' is integrated, (a scary fuckin thought) only then, will I give up computing.

Wasn't there an existing W10 topic instead of creating another one?

No.

This is about the Microsoft Keynote, yes, related to Windows 10, but there may be other stuff?

And that's rich, especially noting some of the many silly topics posted around here lately, as in, any excuse to open a thread for 'this forum sucks' or 'hello I don't have a brain', or 'fuck this', or 'fuck that', need I go on?

Cry some more. This is not the useless void. In the void you can open however stupid threads you want.

Well it's an event and we usually have separate threads for that, so I don't see any harm with this.
Probably not going to follow it tho, not really looking forward to anything since they went the cross platform route.

I'll most likely switch from 7 to 10... but eh. I wish it was solely focused on the desktop environment.

Its just a case of bad-thread-titleitis. Nothing serious. It can be healed with a light infusion of renaming-thread-titleax.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

The gaming-related stuff is inevitably going to be a disappointment, looking forward to the rest though. In particular I want to see what they were able to come up with in terms of UI since that leaked 9901 build.

I don't mind that the codebase of Windows, Windows Phone, XBONE becomes more identical. Its only easier for developers to share code, which is never bad. As long as they keep the interfaces separate (which seems like the case), there is nothing wrong with it.

If PC and Xbone becomes so similar, won't creating emulators and such be much easier?

How about fucking off with that adolescent elitist attitude? Not everyone knows everything about Console and PC architectural differences. I'm gonna plough ahead anyway. Everyone kept talking about how different consoles were compared to PC in the previous generations, and now people have been talking about how PC like they've become.

Even talking about emulation of the last 2 generations of consoles is a fool's errand and a waste of time. Just to give you an idea, the original Xbox's CPU is a Pentium 3. And still nothing. The only reason the Wii is nicely emulated is because it's using Gamecube hardware.

Let's just focus on the OS itself.

@Stormwolf

Emulating mid-end PCs would be near impossible, but what would be more likely would be a wrapper that runs XB/PS4 titles on Windows. They do, after all, run on Windows at various trade shows and whatnot. Being near identical in architecture, and running Windows OS at that, should mean it's a lot easier to port games or get them working.. if you have the know-how and skills and tools.

Personally I'm waiting on some disgruntled employee to leak the Windows binaries Laughing Forza 5 was running on PC at E3, no? Very Happy

Nice.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

nothing official and nothing specific. some news from zdnet spoke about february, yes.

Quote:

But tomorrow will not be the day Microsoft releases the first preview of the mobile version of its Windows 10 operating system, according sources close to Microsoft. Instead, the first public release of the Windows 10 mobile SKU -- which sources have said will work on both Windows Phones and smaller Intel- and ARM-based tablets -- won't happen until some time in February 2015.

but anyway, february would be a nice date. will be interesting to see what they did for phones, my lumia is ready anyway Razz

Weird as everyone and their mothers will rush to upgrade to 10 before the free year is up. Where will they generate revenue?
