Why would less negativity to trump work? Are you implying the right are as much crybabies as the left? Troll Dad

That being said, some could use a thicker skin and others could use less childishness towards people with other opinions (including myself in that). We all can be cunts at times, doesn't mean we're cunts all the time. Try to see beyond the politics of a person.

I can has a halo now?

We're old, but not obsolete! *glances at the php 2001 whilst noticing the low amount of active users* Ok maybe a little bit...but still!

On a more serious note, I don't believe there's a specific a problem with the technical aspect of it or with the contents themselves, it's simply that - bluntly put - forums in general intended as a tool for discussion are slowly but steadily being set aside by other kinds of quicker and more dismissive communication systems that have a stronger social focus so to speak. Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, all different ways to provide modern fast information, that however can lack depth and overall involvement.

It's the junk food of communication, most folks these days don't look forward to being part of a small community, they like to drop their short thoughts from their pedestal, fish for gratifications such as karma/likes/retweets depending on the amount of controversy and that's it, rinse and repeat. It should come as no surprise that there's little interest for us from the outside, since not only we're extremely niche, but our nature and the reason we exist in the first place are actually seen as some sort of dinosaur inside a museum.
As you've surely noticed, great part of the new users that register here every day are either empty accounts or spam-wanna-bots trying to sell the weirdest things (and obviously receive the inevitable parma ham treatment), but...despite everything, despite all the new (derp Cool Face) trends, we do hang tight still..or well, we damn try to. Very Happy Old, but not obsolete...yet!

That's cause the people here are negative as fuck man, i mean come on, i think there's 3 or 4 people here that i actually like, ixigia, mtj, jbeckman & proeekan since they actually post some impressions on the games i'm playing too.

Main reason for coming to this forum, at least for me, is to see people's experiences and impressions on games that i'm hyped for. When i open up a thread and see 3 pages of negative shit, my willingness to contribute my experiences goes bye bye.

And yes, i won't even get into the political aspect of the forum, we should've stuck to gaming and never have gone into discussing politics at all.

I believe a lot of this negativity comes from the fact that most of us aren't exactly young any more Very Happy We all grew up at a time during which computer games were rather niche and developers/producers weren't as big or lucrative - perhaps more passion-driven as well. Gaming became a very mainstream industry with all the downsides which came with it, and I think it left most of us with a sour taste !

Personally, the Hump is the place I use the most to look out for gaming-related news, I barely use any website. It's also my gaming moral compass of sorts: usually, I can trust the opinion of my fellow humpers, way more than I could trust any kind of gaming forum ! Even the tiny dissonant voice often has merit in telling his unpopular opinion.

And yes, I kind of wish the World News section never existed, my mental welfare would have been better Very Happy

The World News section has given me both good and bad (leaning more towards bad though). Among posts emotions tend to flare up, snide remarks are the norm and people (incl. myself) can be dicks at times or go on a temper tantrum. However, it's a personal choice to enter the World News section or not. It's sad when things happening in WN-section spills out to other threads and people become "enemies" but that's to be expected since we're emotional beings.

The forum has too many sections, some need to be merged, for example have a Movies, Sports & Music section and forget about the Encoders section altogether.

I agree, I'd go even further and say that about a third of the sections could be merged or removed

The sad thing is that it's been replaced by crap like instacram, twatter and fecebook, ie. the "new" social platforms that use clever technology (well... Wink ) and use psychology to hook people into investing quite a lot of their lives in them, thereby controlling the users without the users knowing about it. I'd say youtube is the least offensive of these since it has a lot of uses (with the unfortunate side effect of amateurs creating biased propaganda videos to lure mentally lazy people into believing all kinds of crazy shit).

I still think the hump is relevant for all active members and activity seems to come in waves (synchronicity? Wink ) that go hyper active for a while, then go idle, then rise again.

I miss Epsilon and his gaming tastes.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

What's the nick of the norwegian who left the hump a hundred times after becoming emotional in certain threads (world news was his achilles heel) where people would troll him. He finally left for good and last time I heard he's @ cs.rin.ru. Was it something with Sin?
