I've done a decent amount of upgrades on my pc lately (as evidenced by the threads here. THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS!), but I'm still rockin a generic white budget case. So I'm gonna get a new one. Looking to get a midi tower. Now the problem I have is that there are a lot of cases available. My question is, whether there is any point in getting something really expensive? I should currenly be able to buy the Antec 902 or Lian Li PC-P50 mentioned in the sticky but is it worth it? I'm not planning on going crazy with overclocking: just a mild one on the CPU and add a 50-100 MHz to my GTX460, currently at 800.

I'm loving the CM690 II. There are plenty of similar great designs, check out Bit-Tech.

If not for the cooling, the extra room + cable management is worth it in my opinion Smile

But even so, your system will run much cooler and just as quiet with a good case, allowing easier overclocking; also means your GPU fan has to spin up less for example, saving noise from that.

Think I'm gonna get the CM 690 II. Really the only decent mid range case I can find round here with a nice full aluminium side that wont look like a damn christmas tree.

I still suggest the Haf 932 though Razz it fits pretty much in under the description Werelds just gave you Smile

You won't see much of the christmas tree part unless you decide to put lots of shit into it..it does have some small red/blue leds but thats about it

Isnt it bigger though? It also costs around 40-50 euros more here so would it be worth it?

Its aprox 58cm tall - however - that does improve the airflow and its easy to access. Really easy infact. Also nice to hide away them anoying cables.
It's also ready for watercooling (although You did say that you had no plans on doing crazy overclocking - its always good to be prepared. Just incase. It's also always nice to have that extra space incase you need it)

As I was afraid. A bit too big for me. Sad
Also about the CM 690 II. Are there any significant differences between the regular and the advanced?

Advanced has some extra drive bays and a hot swappable SATA port on the top Smile

Honestly, check out some reviews on www.bit-tech.net - they review tons of cases, so it's a good source to see how cable management works (or doesn't Razz).

Did a bunch of research. Looked at the local prices and reviews at bit-tech and in the end I went and ordered CM 690 II Basic. No need for those few extra things. Another case I pondered on was Xigmatek Utgard but I just really like the no nonsense design of the CM 690.

Since I've never had any case fans or I/O Front Panel I've got a few questions. First of all, if I connect the case fans to the motherboard I can control them from Windows with an app like Speedfan, right? Secondly, when connecting the front USB, only voltage, grounding and NC pins are crucial to be matched, right? To illustrate, the case manual states the middle pins, for data transfer I believe, should be LP-/LP- and LP+/LP+ but my mobo has USB_P5-/USB_P6- and USB_P5+/USB_P6+ and the other connector has USB_P7-/USB_P8- and USB_P7+/USB_P8+.

USB is a standard mate, so they can't "customise" the order of the wires Smile

And yeah you probably can do it through Speedfan if your motherboard is supported. I personally don't do that though, I just hooked them up to my fan controller and have them running at minimal speed.

Yeah I only have one Zalman fanmate controller which supports a whopping total of 1 fans so dont have that option currently. Thanks for the quick answer!

Got everything installed and everything works nice but the only problem(?) I have is that the front HDD led never seems to blink. Any specific way to test it?

nvm I had put the HD LED connector the wrong way in. The other front panel wires needed to be placed title up but for whatever reasonthe HDD LED one was the other way around.

Fractal Design R3 with better case fans is my tip. Nice price, great looks, nice to work with.

i'm changing today my old thermaltake's "shark" to a brand new cooler master "cosmos S" Very Happy

didn't fix all the stuff i've got into it lately, so cosmos s has pretty much more room for my crap Very Happy... also i gonna spent some useless old hdd's.

from the architectural point of view of both cases, the cooler master's is more "raw", more "battle oriented", and the tt's is more stylish.
