Things I hate: Pretentious pricks who invite you to a day after Christmas dinner, and then only have wine to drink.
What is it with the notion that if you drink anything other than fancy wines you're a caveman.
I want beer goddammit. I don't want water that tastes like feet, which is all wine.
And don't server plates the size of satelite dishes and then put a piece of cheese on it and call it a fucking meal.
Same goes for salad.

You, maybe.
I don't like wine either and I get what Vaifan means. Fortunately here even in restaurants they usually have a fine selection of beers, but go someplace where they don't know beer beyond piss water (sup, UK?) and anything fancier than a fucking Burger King will net you a "WHAT THE FUCK" look when you ask for beer. Even though a good beer is a much more delicate product than 90% of all wines out there.

Are you absolutely certain you meant UK and not the US? Because UK have a WIDE variety of high class beers, from ales, bitters etc. to lager if that's your thing.

No, I meant the UK (US as well, obviously). Ale they know somewhat (although most of the good ones aren't English), but that's where it ends. I'm not a big fan of ale. Stout and lager are shit in the UK, selection is very limited as well. Pilsners? Good luck, what you'll get is Foster's, Stella Artois, sometimes Heineken and in a handful of pubs I've seen Amstel. For anything better you'll need to find some place specialised in beer (for those in London or travelling there: Zeitgeist is good and just off Trafalgar inside Charing Cross there's this little beer place as well, Embankment is right down the street so it's easy to get there). Wheat beers? Don't get me started
It's just the difference in culture though, almost none of the Brits I know give two shits about beer beyond "it gets me drunk"
In fact, the only one I can think of right now is a colleague of mine who lived in Germany for a few years.

It's a female friend, and she invited us to dinner like every year, but she has a new boyfriend and she wanted us to meet him so the dinner was at his place.
And I have no problem with people who genuinely like wine, I have a problem with pretentious douchebags who look down on you if you don't drink wine.
I have never wanted to punch someone so badly before meeting this guy.

OH I see.
thought it was someone you knew that was always like that. Was wondering how you became good enough friends to start with to be invited..lol

For this christmas i had (and still have, couldn't drink it all) : wine, vodka and jamaican rum.
The wine didn't taste like feet mind you, as it was not the chemical crap you find in stores, but made by a friend who has his own winery.
The beer is so bad in my country i ended up avoiding it - hell, after two or three bouts of diarheea and a skin rash, you learn your lesson.

@Newty182 I know mate, in London there's a couple on Charing Cross rd and one at Victoria station; problem is that at least two of them are shit food-wise haha
Third one (at Leicester Square) is a decent place though. It's still a fairly limited selection, but it's a much better selection than 90% of all pubs
I've been there enough times now to know where to look, it's just a bit sad to think of how shit the average beer selection in London is, yet the food is ridiculously good. You can find pretty much every nation you can think of and pretty much every place tastes good.

Whenever you need plentiful of manly roasted beef served along with fresh beer in an homely, humble and anti-apple environment, you know who to call.
