It'll be a close one between this and Star Citizen for sure
Eeey, CIG is trying at least trying so far. They are slow as crippled snails but they post patches with new ships, planets, clothes, missions, weapons etc. Even a single Redeemer ship is worth more development time than sum of all updates for DayZ since they started the Early Access.
Though SC is getting closer to the DayZ fiasco by every passing month and the latter wins with not paying millions of $ on some useless actors for cheap PR.

Has no one tried to make an ARMA3 version?
This one is similar. Never tried it though. I don't even have ArmA 3 And I am sure Bohemia have the rights and doesn't allow the DayZ mod so they can sell the Standalone.
There are plenty of similar game modes but they all have the same problem.
The ARMA3 engine is not suitable for this type of game.
Thats why they have been doing so much engine work for DayZ.
This is their rough timeline
1. DayZ mod released and its awesome
2. Mod gets popular and cheaters wreck it.
3. Dean Hall says hurr durr lets copy paste this mod into a standalone game and lure everyone to buy it with early access
4. Standalone game sells like crazy
5. Dean Hall realises anticheat isn't possible with arma engine, in fact its the worst engine to attempt anti cheat.
6. Dean Hall decides to shove server side calculations into the game, but as arma is made for clientside, nothing works properly.
7. Its 2018 and even with a lot of features removed to make it work better, it doesn't work that well, they are busy recreating all game code so that it can work with their server side calculations.
I admit I got suckered into this game in early access release and played with my friends about 100 hours early on and had fun at the time but it never did end up what was promised and I have not really tried it in years as we all kind of moved on. This reminds me of PUBG where it started a trend in gaming and was instantly copied everywhere and the original ends up being one of the worse versions of the genre.
I did learn my lesson though as I have never bought into another early access game since. Bard's Tale IV is in a similar vein where the way that game was handled will probably put me off ever backing anything on Kickstarter again.
The last game I backed was Star Citizen. Won't do it again.
I've seen so many kickstarters/crowdfunded games promise so much and turn out to be turds due to inexperienced developers (they can code/produce assets but they can't do project management or proper system development leading to crap). I've seen very few successful examples (Subnautica being at the top of my list).

Subnautica is just an indie developer that has already made indie games in the past though.
Kickstarter games are only risky with new development companies as there is no income from previous games and you are relying on the head guy to know how to budget and create a game.
I think the most amazing game was Kingdom Come: Deliverance. I thought it was going to be a failure from the start, i even tried all the betas and it was terribly put together.
But the final release somehow pulled everything together and its one of my most favourite games ever.
The features available in this beta build will be the ones the game launches with when it hits its milestone 1.0 release, Harton said, which SHOULD arrive in around a month's time.
hahahahahaha,oh wow. this is a real desaster

With them jumping so fast into Beta and then 1.0 release before the end of the year it seems like Bohemia may have finally gotten fed up with the DayZ devs almost zero progress over the years. I guess having new PS4 and Xbox One suckers to find also is another good reason for this quick release launch before Christmas.
They probably know that they are the joke of the industry already, with several dayZ-ish games already further ahead than the one who lit the fire. The devs not making any noticeable progress for months at end is a big problem as well but (without knowing the kinky details) my guess would be the, by todays standards, terrible wonky engine they have to work with beeing the main issue.
Doesn´t matter how much got rewritten, there´s still a frankenstein´ed ArmA inside and it shows.
Still, they HAVE to deliver something and they have to do that SOON to not get into desaster-territory and taint the BI name more than they already did.
Everyone had semi-high expectations, including BI themself but as it looks now, they bite more than they could chew and killed a selfrunning cashcow with it

I played the latest version that came out recently and I was actually pretty surprised.
100-120fps on extreme settings.
The near pitch black at night time adds interesting gameplay most other developers would be afraid to add because kids would complain.
I know its dayz etc etc, but you can't exactly go to another game and get the same experience.
The obvious problem being that there are so few zombies its basically a pvp survival game at the moment. If they manage to get zombies in the game it will be quite a good game.
The only other long standing part that I don't like is the lack of downtime away from players/zombies.
It was once planned to have underground caves, but I'm sure this is long cancelled. Basically a place to relax, store food/water, etc.
They already got enough suckers to buy it when early access started, I really doubt they will ever match that first months sales numbers in total game sales from this date onwards. They burned too many bridges with those broken promises over the years but I would be glad for BI to prove me wrong just so I don't feel bad for being one of those first month suckers.
"But sir, we forgot to mention it's the Alpha 1.0 version"
"Nonsense! 1.0 means that the game is finished. Wrap this up men, collect the pre-Christmas money from them fools and farewell!"
a month ago they released the long awaited "new" update into "very early beta-beta" update and now they have the nerve to release it as 1.0? what in the flying fuck bohemia lol
someone high up the companys foodchain is VERY angry about this 3 year long messing around and now its time to piss off the last members of the community that had hopes for the game, good fucking job naggers
