Why not? https://github.com/ValveSoftware/halflife/issues

Most of those issues seem to be related to other people and their modding.

Still, to be me it doesn't really make much sense to release such a minor patch after 10 years.

But props to Valve, that they have an open issue-tracker that still is active after such a long time.

Well, it's not after 10(++) years. Last big update to the game was in 2013 for the Linux / Mac port.

I know i know, nobody will agree with me. It has an AI which makes the game really feel like it has tension. But thats about it.

Just like FEAR. Just because you hear radio chatter its not good AI.

But make no mistake: I dont mean that these games have bad "AI" but its overhyped.

It's not about the radio chatter. Have you watched the video?

Does it really matter if it's an illusion as long as it works? Just like in Fear and HL1? I don't think so. I'd rather have some trickery that actually gets the job done in a very solid way than CoD AI.

Interesting AI mechanics in the original Half-Life, had no idea the roaches were that complex or that some of the creatures could use a form of "scent" to detect things.

One day perhaps games will return to having more complex AI patterns.
(Or at least making the AI seem like they're more interesting like how FEAR managed due to level design and use of radio chatter for example.)

EDIT: Bouncy.

(Interesting sound investigation routine too, odd that they're the only type doing it since you'd expect the grunts to have something like that but apparently they do not.)

EDIT: Ah and I See Bob already posted the assassins overview above. Smile

EDIT: Replaced with the Houndeye squad behavior video, that was also very interesting.
(Though it mostly comes down to the shockwave attack but it can be weakened by taking out the squad leader.)
(And no they don't bounce.)

It looks great. Flashlight casts shadows on everything, the muzzle flash from the assault rifle lights the enviroment. Just be sure to follow the instructions he wrote there to enable dlss. Get a dlss from techpowerup, copy it in the appropriate folder then the other dll. He wrote everything on github under dlss section.

It's only bright if a source of light is there to make it bright. Other areas are pitch black if no light source is present. The guy did fantastic work. Since we've all surely played HL a thousand times, this new way to experience the classic is surelly a welcome one

Can't judge the entire mod just based on the trailer

Though if one did, one would have noticed that lab corridor where you first encounter the headcrab zombies with Barney

And it's dark and moody as fuck, far darker than in the original game

I played a little and basically rushed to the first encounter with the female assassins

It's great, somehow the CRT filter it ships with is pretty legit too.. it creates this cool juxtaposition of modern raytraced lighting with old school graphics that I guess manages to recreate how we idealize such a classic game in our heads, games always seemed to look better than they actually did back then

The only odd thing I noticed is these blips of light spots that pop up across the screen, possibly related to DLSS

and in very dark scenes that should be pitch black or nearly so there is some sort of light leakage, like in the vents

Btw. without DLSS at 4k my 4090 only manages about 60fps

Oof

It looks like a massive atmosphere booster (especially compared to the faux ghetto GI shaders available till now), good stuff indeed. Many of those familiar levels/scenes look completely different which is an incentive to replay the game for the umpteenth time. Will add it to the list™ Very Happy

Not exactly HL: Source but this guy put together all the games covering the Black Mesa incident in chronological order:

Pretty interesting
