AMD served its purpose, they forced Intel into a difficult position so Intel had to innovate. I hope this shit won't mean Intel will stop giving a shit and stagnate again. Hopefully Ati won't be dragged down or cannibalized by the AMD part.

same opinion <3
sausje wrote: | It kinda feels like AMD did the same fuckup as they did with Phenom series. First gen of Phenom didnt deliver at all what was promised and where shit CPU's.
Second gen Phenoms however, did ALOT better and did deliver what was promised, only problem, it was too late at that point. |

This was my first Intel cpu, all the others where AMD (think 6 of them in total), can't say i made a bad decision after seeing all this

There are 4 generations of Bulldozers planned. Question is if they can fix the clusterfuck of a release before their performance CPU department is shut down forever. This Bulldozer release will put AMD so deep into the red that it will be difficult to get back while also redesigning their flawed chip. But they've done so before. New CEO will hopefully fix what the previous one destroyed.
Quote: | 2nd Generation
AMD Financial Analyst Day 2010, revealed the 2nd generation is to be scheduled for 2012. AMD currently refers to this as Enhanced Bulldozer.
This new generation of Bulldozer core is codenamed Piledriver and will be incorporated into specific desktop and notebook markets:
Desktop Performance market (Volan platform): Zambezi will be replaced by Vishera (up to 8 cores). Vishera will feature Turbo Core 3.0 while using the existing Socket AM3+ format and 9xx series chipset of the 1st generation FX-series Zambezi processor. AMD has projected this 2nd generation FX-series processor will be 10% better under digital media workloads. |
2nd generation doesn't stand a chance. 10% better under digital media workloads barely touches Phenom II.
Quote: | 3rd Generation
AMD has mentioned (in name), of a 3rd generation Bulldozer-based line for 2013. It is currently referred to as Next Generation Bulldozer and will be made on the 22 nm FD-SOI manufacturing process.
On 21st September 2011, leaked AMD slides indicated this 3rd generation of Bulldozer core is codenamed Steamroller and will be incorporated into specific desktop and notebook markets |
Quote: | 4th Generation
On 12th October 2011, AMD revealed Excavator to be the codename for the 4th generation Bulldozer core. It is scheduled for 2014 release. |
I doubt those plans will stick seeing how monumental of a failure the Bulldozer is. It needs a serious redesign and rethink. Meanwhile they should work on an improved Phenom III while redesigning a next-gen chip.
They need to get their IPC waaaaaaaaaaay up to ever be able to compete with Intel.
The fact is, a 6-core Phenom II outperforms the "8-core" FX-8150 even when the FX-8150 is running higher frequency in 90%+ of the tests.

Yeah it's big fuck up. Read some test, the worst thing is actually power consumption compared to performance.

I don't get the point of releasing a worst cpu than the ones that are already out there with the fact that they're CHEAPER.
Bulldozer could fail, their testing department were aware of the fail, I'm sure. But releasing it? Now that's nonsense.

Its ideal for some shit market computer, i can already see this line in some newspaper:
"Here comes the gamers wet dream! HP lolpro1337: 8 Cores of brutal calculation power, combined with 16gb ram and Nvidia GT 520 graphics card with 3GB dedicated ram!"

Funny that the cheapest bulldozer is almost on par with the 1100T or whatever it is..the 6 core CPU which is only a sliver better than my 965 quad
AMD....YOU DISAPPOINT ME AGAIN??!!
You'd think they would have learned their lesson from the AM2 socket fuck up
