i remember finishing this in 2006 i think, played now abit but reached that spiders area and quit , developed some miniphobia for spiders these past years
is that so? then i have a little surprise for ya,but don't look if you hate spiders
Spoiler:
actualy,i am no fun of bugs neither and sometimes in games spiders can realy gives you the crip. i remember when i was kid,i played wonder boy or was it wonder girl...something from the c-64 days and one of the bosses was realy realistic spider and first time i saw it, i almost got heart atack but it was realy realistic spider for it's time:)
Fucking finally. I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks that. And it doesn't only need the combat from DM. I always thought Bethesda needs to take a proper look at DM if they want to do combat (actually, first person in general) well for once. DM has the perfect first person feel/movement. Pretty much no game comes close to it in that respect. Its father, Arx Fatalis and Mirror's Edge are the only ones that come to my mind and are close to it. After playing so much Dark Messiah I can only consider Bethesda's games shit. I feel like a ghost in their games. There's no feel at all. The movement is shit and the combat is shit. I would be happy with the combat fixed, but I would really love to see Skyrim have DM's first person feel. First of all, Skyrim's combat needs DM's way of attacking: one attack in each direction + one for simple clicking. Also, enemies need to react to each of this attacks accordingly. It also needs the kick (along with giving the character a full body which you can actually see and which actually makes the game feel that well in first person). Arrows need to have the kind of impact they have in DM. Stealth needs to be made like in DM. There are so many things...
Also, I know I'm late (had a problem with the internet these last couple of days), but here are some screens:
And as I said there, yes, the game has aged really well. As Interinactive said, the game is way ahead of its time... both in terms of graphics and gameplay.
It's not just the fact that Skyrim feels too floaty compared to DM, it's that Gamebryo feels too floaty compared to Source in general. Souce games have always given me that "chunky" feel, games like DM and Zeno Clash both have that amazing melee combat feel.
I never really used it. It's nice that you have the choice though. And by choice I don't mean of only using it or not. It's awesome how you actually get to choose if you want that out of you or not. You can make Sareth such a different character this way. On one hand you can make him a character that wants to fight like a human if he has too, he wants to save the people he can and all that, he wants to be a human, thus throwing the demon side out of him when you get the chance. On the other hand, you can make him a true demon bastard, by letting people die, by embracing your demon form and all that. The game doesn't have much in terms of choice, but it has some and a lot of freedom and that feels really good. I also love the level design. I actually managed to skip a part of the game by climbing with the rope bow through some really weird areas.
It's just a shame that this was a one-shot thing, it would have been amazing to have more from the Dark Messiah...or hell, even just more FP combat in the Might & Magic world. Seems like the original Might & Magic series died
This game recently appeared in my list on Steam. Had the MP activated via a cd-key, but the SP simply popped not a long time ago.
I really like the game. But I have the FPS loss/memory leak problem. Looked around the internets and no tip was useful for me.
Problem in details: framerate starts to drop while playing and goes into single digits, no matter the level or the action my character performs, no matter how many reloads or settings I change.
No idea how to fix it. Tried a ton of solutions but with no go. But man... the first person implementation is this game is absolutely splendid. It's such a shame Bethesda hasn't learned anything from Arkane in this regard. Skyrim is such 10 steps back...
I've heard about that framerate issue too, it does seem to either happen to people or it doesn't. It's so sporadic. On my old rig I used to have some performance issues in certain places, framerate would drop noticeably but never to such extremes as single digits, and absolutely nothing on my current machine.
I really wish I could help you mate The only thing I can suggest is, due to it being Source engine, you could try some HL2 optimising tips? Pretty much all the same commands.
I still remember the game being bashed by the silly journos back in the day, for being shallow, too linear and some even went as far as saying that the combat was boring. It's unclear whether heavy drugs were involved, or simply no bribing occurred in this case, but either way they were so damn wrong it's unbelievable.
Dark Messiah was perhaps too ahead of its times, with all the sandbox-y environmental interactions, traps created on the fly with proper physics, the majestic rope bow, various elemental approaches with fire and ice and enemies properly reacting to them, tons of unique weapons, the bloody kick, stamina bar system for parrying and impaling people.
It's sad when we think about it, 10 years of technological "advancements" have passed, and instead of spending them to evolve this formula, we're stuck to awesome buttons
What? Is there something i'm missing?
They are not generic shooters CoD is a generic shooter, even Doom qualifies as one but Dishonored where you not shoot anything and can play the whole game without killing (yourself) is definitely not a shooter or Thief would be a shooter as well they merely share the same perspective: first person but that doesn't make them a shooter, get your damn genres right bloody idiots....
