You probably never really liked that much MGS1/2/3 (4) in the first place then. And you are probably a fan of Far Cry / Assassins Creed Origins/Odyssey with skill trees and open world stuff.
I respect that, good for you, seems most games are aiming towards this.

Sorry but wrong, MGS is my favorite series of all time I have beaten every one including Metal Gear 1 and 2 on MSX. You can like more than one type of game I enjoy all the main series Metal Gears. Metal Gear Solid 1 and 3 are amongst my favorite games of all time and if I had to choose I would choose those over Phantom Pain, but I still loved it.
But no I don't hate Assassin's Creed or Far Cry either. Phantom Pain blows those games away though to me.
I'm just saying there's no contest between what Konami is doing now and what Kojima did with Phantom Pain. Konami is making some of the worst games ever.
This is what reviewers thought comparing Konami's newest games to Phantom Pain.
Your personal hate for Phantom Pain doesn't make it a bad game, it reviewed well and is generally liked. Meanwhile Konami can't do anything right since Kojima left. Kojima was keeping them relevant for years by himself now that he's gone they're a terrible company. It's a shame we won't get his Silent Hill game thanks to Konami.
Never said Konami was doing good games now that Kojima left. And yes like I mentioned, MGS5 was praised, which I will never understand why because to me this game is nothing like MGS1234.
Everything they added, every mecnhanics to me is a step down sadly. But, I perfectly realize that i'm an exception and most people loved it.
I also think the game was overrated as fuck because of being a MGS game and a Kojima game. Replace Snake with a random character, and replace MGS title with another name (and replace KOJIMA's name by Joaquim ) and you will get a 70% game.
The best one is definitely MGS3. MGS4 was a step down but still a similar game and had some epic moments I'll always remember (Final battle with health bar/music changing, back to Shadow Moses level, the "crawling" moment...).
Sadly I have to admit I can't say anything about MGS5 and epic moments since I got bored after 2h of gameplay (and I even bought it). But can you tell me if MGS5 has any similar epic moment ?
Yes there are plenty of epic moments, but that's my opinion of course. I don't think you can do that game justice by playing 2 hours. I 100%'d the game it took me 255 hours (one of my proudest accomplishments as a gamer because I rarely beat games that are 100 hours+) But I guess if you just couldn't stand it, I understand not continuing. I will admit it's probably not for everybody, I think even Kojima said something along those lines.
The story was incomplete due to Konami forcing Kojima to put it out before he intended to, but what was there was still better than a lot of games, although not really better than previous Metal Gear Solids. But I mean Zelda gets praised over and over, but pretty much just tells the same story over and over. Not that I'm anti-Zelda, but the story is not it's strong point. Like Zelda, Phantom Pain's strong point was it's gameplay.
Like you said before most games have gone open world it's just the way games have generally gone, and it probably won't change.
Anyway I have Death Stranding pre-ordered, but I'm a little nervous about it. I admit it's probably only because of Kojima's name that I have it pre-ordered because carrying boxes doesn't sound like fun, but I'm willing to give it a chance and if I hate it I can always sell it.
Can't say Zelda BOTW had lots of action but it was definitely less boring than MGS5 and much more enjoyable. Also previous Zelda games were IMO more boring than BOTW (which at least had voice acting, a story, and cutscenes).
IMO BOTW was a good compromise between boredom and gameplay, which is why I loved it compared to previous Zelda which were a borefest after a while.
That being said, I don't like spending more than 15 h on a video game, never did. I like to complete the story and that's about it, which is what i did with zelda botw (prolly took me 20 h though).
Screw it, I've bought it. If it is boring, I will sell account. I need something new to hook me in, I haven't had that kind of game since Spider-Man last year. Not even RDR 2.
It's all good fun but tbh it's starting to feel a little ridiculous, as in "how many celebrities I have some kind of connection with can I stuff in my game ?".
If it's done with a clear purpose and in a clever way, I have no issue with it, and tbh I don't give a damn that he does it. However, this feels quite ridiculous to me, kinda like Kojima wants to be part of some kind of celebrity club or something. It's cute and everything, but feels off.
I don't doubt this opinion will be unpopular

From what i understand the Japanese have this "oh my, it's american" thing going on.
After Konami Kojima had problems setting up shop. He said that through connections (hence the idea of Death Stranding) he came out of the hole. Working in a japanese corp is, reportedly, like being married to one. Therefore when you are gone, no one wants anything to do with you. That is, unless someone ignores the whole "marriage" crap. Because some bank manager liked Kojima he made it possible for him to lease an office and set up shop.
What i'm saying is all the people he worked with since were connected through somebody. Reeeeeeedus said that Del Toro called him and told him that he would get a phone call. And he wants him to say yes to whatever the mysterious caller says. And he did.
I wonder if Sony (because KojiPro isn't really a big moneymaker for now) laid out tons of cash for all these cameos and stars. It is possible that they (the cast) actually believe Kojima to be a visionairy and not just saying that. And because of that money is not an issue.
Whatever the case, i don't believe Kojima to be a starfucker (except for sexy time with Mads and Norman obviously ). I think it's the magic of "they are american stars".
Obviously, Mads is Danish but they same rule applies - Kojima is close friends with the director Nicolas Winding Refn who, in turn, worked many many times with Mads. So again - making friends through connections.
As for Lindsay Wagner - Kojima had a crush on her since he saw her as Bionic Woman and, again, met her through somebody because he asked to meet her.
I'm inclined that the god emperor Kojima-san is in a zen state where he avoided poverty and now wants to be friends with everybody

As if the Japanese has anything that even closely resembles taste? He'd put Mario in there too, if he could, or perhaps Shrek or Batman.
I was hooked from the first time I saw the title screen until the credits rolled 72 hours later. Death Stranding is immensely satisfying, and everything I could have hoped for and more from Kojima Productions.
Completed the story in about 85 hours. I've played over a hundred total at this point.
I'm sure I will like this. Games that get mixed opinions or dislike I usually like lol.
Got me 2 days off work next week, 4 day weekend and hopefully SimplyGames ship on Wednesday
