One more tip, have the shadows on one layer so that they don't accidentally overlap and don't set them to normal or multiply. Use color burn or overlay if possible. And the shadow from the big bunch of hair on her forehead should preferably only be cast to the right and not the left, as your light source is on the left Apart from that, good advancement! (and she has a bit too much hair on top, maybe squish that also?
Generally it's a good approach to have some circles as skull first, so that you have the right proportions from start

Its just from today, I am doing more practice and natural feel stuff for linework.. I will try and finish it, I just added her choker, will do a chain for it and I still got wings to do at back.
I rarely finish anything though :O - Ill try to with this one, but gaming gets in the way lol

Moosenoodles how do you produce such smooth precise and flowing lines. I know you use a wacom tab, but holy cow!

hard brush size 4
shape dynamics on
smoothness on
click on shape dynamics - change minimum diameter to somewhere between 40 and 50% mine is on 42%
everything else is at 0%
when you commit the line to be drawn with the tools make sure simulate pressure is selected.
everything else is about being zoomed in far enough to make sure you create the line where you want it. Otherwise not even that is critical, the wonders of photoshop tools

why not take the pencil art and ink it in, then display it in this thread then that is classed as photoshop work and nobody will say anything

Thanks for the tips. Now I'm a little confused as never using PS. I can see your first sketch is free hand right? But the second sketch are you using the pen tool and using point to point then commiting the line with simulate pen pressure. |
correct... as long as you have a vision where u want things to go you can use the pen tool to show what ur mind wants its easy honest it is lol, simple sketch is all thats needed for scale.

No ive never had to use special brushes tbh but I thought those are ones I would take a look at if I was going to, and seeing as they are like what $5 tops £2.50 or so then I will probably try them sometime soon. I bet there are youtube vids showing how to make a 2b pencil effect for use.
I always wing it and go by feel and trial and error.. But I bet we can find some good brushes like that for free somewhere

Photoshop:
You want to cut something in half? Press CTRL+R to enable rulers. Now go onto the object to be split, press CTRL+T for transformation, and during transformation mode, click and hold on the ruler and pull in a help line which should snap onto the middle of your object. Press ESC to leave transformation mode. Now select your tool of choice, f.e. masking and your selection should auto snap to the help line
