Yeah they are fixing up the visuals in a few weeks with the 1.1 patch but we'll see how that goes, something somewhere went really wrong here.
Some water effects are alright though but then it turns into some flat shiny surface and just looks off or broken too so it needs work.
Best guess is that they couldn't delay it and it got shipped out earlier than it should have but we'll probably never know for sure what happened here.
Square might not have had much faith in the product and sending it out now would have it count for the sales for the end of the year and might help out the reports for the first fiscal next year and earnings from 2018 even if it doesn't produce record sales.
(EDIT: Compared to a two - three month delay or what the devs could have realistically asked for but even that might be tough for how set some of these release dates can be.)
There's also not too many big-budget game releases these last two - three weeks of the year compared to January and the start of next year easing competition in the "AAA" game development segment although the backlash is going to be affecting the franchise and the developers though Square has a ton of properties and numerous projects in development starting next year with Kingdom Hearts 3 though after Just Cause 3 and Just Cause 4 Avalanches US studio might need a bigger hit for whatever they can get a deal for next.
For now the game should be good for a few patches and some additional content though once the DLC is up then if sales are hitting low numbers and discounts are no longer effective I expect them to move on but we will see.
I certainly hope Square is having a bit more realistic sales expectations too but "AAA" is what it is and it's millions or pretty much failure so well that might be a issue and I can't imagine sales having been too great at the start before all these issues were discovered.
Ignoring the frequent crashing of the game. I just don't like it any more, those crappy quests... the way you conquer stuff now, looks like hot garbage. Fucking hell why did they mess it up.
Don't think I'll go back to it. Rather play 2 or 3 again
I can't say it runs like shit though. It just crashes a lot, has retarded console controls going on, gameplay is crap and it looks like arse... but you can have a stable 60 FPS experience.
None of those things will be addressed by a crappy vid explaining what the settings do.
Finished it after 25 hours and even that was getting too long.
Unlocked all regions and did some of the sidequests, also one or two stunts...that's it.
In my opinion the game lacked chaos and hectic action. Most of the area unlock missions are "protect this" or "escort that", the two most hated missions in my book.
I counted only few missions where you actually just cause mayhem and destruction. Just give me the tools and fuck everyone else.
Game is truly a chore at times, but I still plowed through.
Yeah, after a few missions of standing in a square waiting for waves of enemies I just had to throw in the towel.
Also, I felt a lack of ammo (thanks to removing the pistol), vehicles felt less sturdy. Chaos system pointless and capturing zones very lacklustre while some even called it confusing.
One of those games that after a few days I'm still disappointed/pissed about. I didn't want much from this franchise and they still found ways to fuck it up.
JUST CAUSE 4: LATEST PATCH UPDATE 14 DECEMBER - ROBBIESQUAREENIX
Please rest assured that this is just the start of the work we are carrying out. We are prioritising as best we can, and we are already looking into working on further other fixes for patches updates that will come in the New Year.
We’d like to say a big thank you to our fans for all the helpful comments on the forum; we take these very seriously and they are of great help in identifying and prioritising issues. If you do encounter a problem, it is worth checking on the forum first whether it has already been raised – in which case we’ll already be looking into it - or whether we should begin a separate investigation to work out the cause.
If the fix you are after is not in the list below please bear with us and we will update you ASAP.
PC Patch
- Numerous stability fixes
- Improvements and fixes to menu navigation for mouse and keyboard users
- Support for remapping of movement keys
- Improved vegetation rendering and asset updates
- Fixes to some texture mapping issues
- Increased mouse sensitivity range
- Corrected specialised vehicle support for mouse and keyboard players
- Fixed issue with steering flying vehicles with keyboard
- Fixed the disabling SSAO option in Graphics menu, which resulted in broken Ambient Occlusion
Please note that this patch will also enable automatic crash reporting to ensure Avalanche can roll out fixes ASAP for any crashes that still happen to occur.
The water is still a bit of a mess and the patch introduced some additional new problems like disappearing map icons but it's a start I suppose, now to see how it goes from here though the game has other issues too.
For a game with a open world it was also surprisingly short at roughly maybe 15 hours and most of that is just the stuff for opening up the map and taking the territories doing a few types of missions over and over and then a trio of main mission objectives before the final mission chain and completing the game, bit of a step back from the prior Just Cause titles though at least it's not padded to hell like some other developers open world games. (Ubisoft for example and their mantra. Some of the games can be fun though if you avoid the obvious padded out BS ha ha. )
Today marks the unveiling of the adrenaline fuelled Dare Devils of Destruction DLC for Just Cause 4, releasing April 30th 2019 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.
Dare Devils of Destruction is included in the Just Cause 4 Expansion Pass, and Gold Edition purchasers will receive 7 days early access on April 23rd.
Rico Rodriguez gears up for a high-octane adventure in Dare Devils of Destruction as he burns rubber and shreds metal in this celebration of violent vehicular mayhem.
What's in the Dare Devils of Destruction DLC?
Put the pedal to the metal, earn the respect of rival gangs and take on three deadly challenge modes across 15 explosive new missions.
Survival: Speed through a gauntlet of landmines, wrecking balls and rings of fire in this ultimate drive for survival. Destroy obstacles along the way and race towards the checkpoints to secure victory.
Run: Drive through extreme weather and master high-speed stunts in Run. Obliterate your rivals with a variety of weapons as you try to cross the finish line!
Rampage: Master the art of destruction and create carnage within this explosive arena. Reduce targets and rival drivers to scrap metal to achieve the high score!
Destroy. Drive. Survive.
Completing new missions unlocks over 16 all-new weaponized vehicles that you can drop in to Solis at a moment’s notice. Experience new levels of destruction, attack missions in never-before-seen ways, employ new tactics against the forces of the Black Hand and cause pure mayhem in the world of Solís.
Well I guess they needed something but that sounds pretty weak. Don't think I ever actually used a vehicle other than air transportation unless required and the glider works well enough for most transportation and it's more flexible.
They do need something for that pass though even if the game probably bombed worse than probably any other Square published title before although for Avalanche it seems Generation Zero is also struggling a bit. Guess things are a bit rough for the other studios with their main one now working on Rage 2 and we'll see how that gets received.

Publisher Square Enix and developer Avalanche Studios have announced Just Cause 4downloadable content “Los Demonios,” which will launch on July 3 as the second of three add-on packs included with the “Dare Devils, Demons and Danger Expansion Pass.” Users who purchased the Gold Edition of Just Cause 4 will be able to access it seven days early on June 26.
When Rico & Javi, investigate a newly discovered temple off the shore of Solis, an archaeologist working with the Black Hand unexpectedly releases an ancient demonic force from its imprisonment.
A parasitic infestation now spreads across Solis, terrorizing its inhabitants and attacking any Black Hand forces that stand in its way. Rico must tackle a horrifying new threat and seek out answers to eradicate the demon invasion from the island permanently, before it’s too late!
Discover a completely new sandbox gameplay experience with Los Demonios, as demonic hordes, pulsing tendrils and spore-filled clouds infest the towns and people of Solis in an exciting new supernatural addition to Just Cause 4.
Face the demons across new missions that will require all the skills and tools at Rico’s disposal to emerge victorious. Vicious demons spit corrosive projectiles, possess soldiers, and even take over military vehicles and turn them against Rico.
Seamlessly integrating into the Just Cause 4 sandbox, the new missions enhance the crazy open world experience further and provide a return to the popular liberation gameplay of the Just Cause 3. Introducing new weapons and equipment to unlock, including the Demon Crossbow and Demon Egg Supply Drop, Los Demonios lets you take the new tools of destruction into the open-world sandbox of Just Cause 4 for explosive new action packed moments of glorious mayhem.
Wow, they added magic, when you think they couldn't get any lower they surprise you and do: "Yes we can." With the bad confusing controls, and always the same mission unimaginative game-play, they added this to fix it? They should have stayed at the 2nd iteration of just cause and do something else after that .
That's honestly what I always thought as well and I like their games. Just Cause just isn't the kind of series that can really offer enough to warrant so many sequels. A new entry should be made only when there's enough advancement in technology and innovation in gameplay, which still ties into the first thing.
