I have about a 2 inch vertical incision where they went in. My wife changes the dressing once a day per instructions from nurses post surgery.

Had to share these freakin adorable photos I was able to catch this morning. These were totally random and not staged. She just did this on her own and I had to take a pic. Excuse the slight mess hehe.

My wife gave birth to our third this past Friday late afternoon. Without going into details, due to some complications with how fast she came out she is currently in NICU under observation and has a CPAP hooked up to assist with her breathing. She seems to be getting better each day so hopefully we will be able to bring her home soon.

I’ll have pics of Ember in the near future. She was 6lbs 2.4oz and 18 1/4 inches long when born and has gained a bit of weight already which is good news!

Thanks all! Bright side is she is off the cpap device as of this morning. Thing are improving but she still has more to go. She is having issues eating and keeping the food down (she has a feeding tube sometimes to help). While this is mostly normal considering all that has happened birth wise, the docs just won’t let her go until she is 100% stable and at the “normal” level of intake and everything by one else.

So this all sounds like a silver lining in some ways but there’s more to it. My wife was tested for covid per hospital procedure and she came back positive. None of us show symptoms though so we’ve no idea where or when she got it. We on lockdown for now and are at home while our baby is still at the hospital. It’s tough to not have her with us right now and if covid wasn’t a problem we could at least visit her. But we can’t. It’s a double whammy. My wife has to test negative twice in 14 days before they would allow her to see Ember in person.

The hope at this point is that Ember should be back on track in the next couple of days and then we can bring her home. Until then we can just use FaceTime and see her a couple of times a day that way. It’s hard though.

Oh, hoping for a quick recovery of your wife too! Even though you don't show any symptoms, you'll most likely have it too, right? Are you going to get tested?

@Mikey5449 Have you been tested also? It could be that she contracted it in the hospital, and you might not have been exposed (it takes a while from being infected to start shedding virus).

@PA - Assuming the test is/was accurate, I would most likely have/had it as well. That said, I talked to a couple of nurses (during different shifts for varying opinions/perspectives) and both advised to not get tested at this time since I'd be quarantining with my wife regardless of that particular outcome. My wife will most likely get tested again sometime post 14 days from the 18th and I likely will as well just for another data point.

@Leo - Your thought also crossed our minds and all the more reason to do the post 14 days test then. The thing is, even if it has "run its course" and your body has antibodies, a test could come back positive for up to 90 days. At least, this is what were being told anyway. So it kind of just a wait and see.

Another bit of news now is that Ember's second test came back positive for COVID while her first showed negative. It just goes to show you the state of things these days I guess and who knows what is right or wrong really. This doesn't mean we wouldn't be able to take her home (once she's stable), but it means we would want to be extra careful with just everyday life and how we approach our initial post birth routine doctor visits.

I will say, I'm very lucky to have a job that allows me a decent chunk of paid paternity leave especially given the times we're in right now. I won't be taking it all at once or anything, but knowing I have it available is comforting.

We just want our baby girl home!

That's not how it works. PCR tests test for virus presence in your respiratory tract. PCR tests don't test for antibodies. Antibody tests are very unreliable. Is this the test the hospital has tested your wife?

A second test coming positive after a negative makes sense, because it takes a while for the virus to replicate to levels high enough to be detected by PCR. This makes me even more suspicious that the hospital is where she contracted it. Sad

Sorry. I think I might have jumped around a bit with the timeline.

So, my wife had the initial COVID test shortly after giving birth, per hospital procedure. Comes back positive. I don't know what kind of test this was specifically. If they mentioned it, I just don't recall the term.

The next test they are running is the anitbodies test, a blood test they said. I don't believe we've gotten the results of that back yet.

And yes, my mother in law mentioned the possibility that the hospital might have been where it was contracted.

Fingers crossed for you man. I know a case here where a couple was schedule for testing before they could go on vacation to Greece and they decided not to get tested last minute, so they didn't even go to the clinic. 3 days later, they receive a call from the clinic that they both tested positive - so I guess take the test results with a pinch of salt.

Hope everything comes to the outcome everybody is expecting and you get your girls back home safe and sound.

Take care!

Everything Leo said was correct about PCR testing, that’s the swab but it’s still the most accurate way to diagnose. Your wife most likely would of had the swab. The number I was given was 30% false negatives. I don’t know how that number stands in other counties other then mine, but I suspect it’s the same. There is still a lot of questions about the antibody tests (IgG) mainly the type of testing and the analyzers....picking up antibodies from other Coronia viruses-not specifically Covid-19.

But I’m sure your doctors know what they are doing, not everything I’ve learned in medicine is an exact science. They take information from a variety of sources, tests....and put it all together to form a picture.

I wish your wife a speedy recovery. Your kids are beautiful. What a lot of stress for a family to be going through.

So this whole things has been a shitshow. We still haven't been able to see our daughter in person since her birth and as mentioned, only for a glimpse. So here's an update to breakdown what's happened:

My wife gives birth to our daughter and subsequently a covid test is done as per their procedure (Mind you, no symptoms from any of us or in our circle of friends/family) and comes back positive. They quarantine both her and I.

They run a 24 hr test on our daughter and it comes back negative.
They run a 48 hr test on our daughter and it comes back positive.

A few days later, we get news that the sample tested on our daughter might have been compromised due to a contaminated testing sample/machine/site/whatever. They do another round of tests.

24 hr test on daughter shows negative.
48 hr test on daughter shows negative.
At this point we're thinking she never had it, as it's apparently very uncommon for the babies to contract it from the mom, even if positive.

My wife and I both go get tested this past Wednesday. It was two different types of tests, not sure why but okay. Different orders from different doctors maybe.

She got her results the following day - Negative. I'm still waiting on mine.

Even though my wife is now showing negative, we still can't see her due to "policy". Minimum of 10 days whether it was legit covid or not.

Due to the snafu of testing in general, my wife asks her doc to put in another order for the test, just to be sure. The place we got ours done was closed today so it will have to wait until tomorrow.

If mine comes back negative as well, to say we'll be pretty dissapointed would be an understatement.

I'll update more as we find out more.

Leo - it’s not the negative results were frustrated with. It’s that we truly feel that we never had it at all a d faulty testing has kept us from holding our daughter since she was born.

My test was negative as well. Got the result this morning.

Some updates - We were able to see Ember this past monday. She is still in NICU but has been upgraded to the "feed and grow" section. Essentially this means she is mostly back on track but due to her late start and respiratory struggles, she wasn't able to get the learning how to eat from a nipple/bottle perspective. This is what we're working on now and she has made a bit of progress.

She came out a fighter and I can tell that her just being with my wife has already made a world of difference in her progress. We're hoping to have her able to come home by this weekend at the latest. We'll see how she does.

Here's a pic of her in my wife's arms.

Long time, no update I know. Ember is home and has a feeding tube in her belly that should be there for about a year which is a common/routine timeframe for this sort of deal. She will need heart surgery within the next 3-5 months based on further heart findings, specifically, her VSD issue. This is also relatively common procedure and the surgery has a high success rate. She still has feeding from bottle issues and is under developed there and a couple of other areas, but overall, she is healthy and growing, albeit at a slower rate than the "standard". We're not overly worried as the other two kids also started out small and are now within the average size/weight and such.

Here are some recent photos of a few of us Smile.

Thanks Pumpy! And thanks for the compliment! Funny story from this morning. So our son goes to pre-school a couple of days a week and our older daughter 3 times. He doesn't go today but his teacher was helping get kids into the classroom and asked my wife if our son could show up more often for class since she absolutely adores him. She thinks he's hilarious and gives great hugs. She's right on both accounts actually Smile.

It's been a while and a lot has happened since my last post. Our youngest has had her first surgery to get the ear tubes inserted to help with drainage. This is apparently a pretty common thing for kids these days. She did very well with the surgery so this gives me confidence in her next one which is in another 10 days or so. The next one will be for her heart defects. A little more serious, but she is a fighter and I'm sure she will pull through this one just fine as well.

I have to keep this short due to just being busy, but here are some recent pics of a "mommy and me" shoot that was taken.
