FFS, now my left cursor key is only working intermittently. I've already de-soldered three bad Cherry MX Red switches and replaced them with switches from keys that I never use. I've had this awesome keyboard for a decade so it's time to replace it with something that is as similar to this as possible (but with a better hand/wrist support).
I've looked around for a new keyboard with Cherry MX Red keys but dammit, what's up with the fucking disco lighting that they all seem to have!? I don't want any fucking lights under the keys, it's just distracting and to me utterly pointless. If I need to look at the keyboard while typing in the middle of the night I'll just turn on a lamp.
Any suggestions of a quality keyboard with Cherry MX Red switches for MAX $100, preferably around $80?
It's really easy to access the battery. It's on the underside of the keyboard under a plate that holds the serial numbers ect.. Just 2 screws and it unclips.
Just be real careful with the sticker. But if you are replacing the battery yourself then warranty wouldn't be an issue!
By the way, it's a nice keyboard but it's not easy to type on as my Filco. I find my fingers hitting the wrong keys , things are different and it's taking time to get used to it.
I'm using the tactile version which i am really pleased with the feel and sound.
Spoiler:
Just got this keyboard 3 days ago, being fair, maybe it should have been better to get the TKL version, I find the num keys pointless and bearly even using macro. You can't right now find it anywhere in my country though. Great keyboard, I kinda wish the battery life would be better, I am not sure it can truely hit "30" hours RGB on like Logitech are saying, but It seems you can replace the battery and more than double it's capacity. Both TKL and regular G915 have the same battery, I think the reason TKL battery is about 33% better than G915 is because the less keys to power up with RGBs, I used the logitech software to turn off the nums and macros key to save energy, I am wondering if this going to extend it's life.
Ordered a new keyboard (xmas gift from my mum). Read plenty of good reviews about it and it was a good price under the after-xmas sales period. Couldn't care less about the RGB but I guess it's customizable so I can set it to a low-intensity glow if I want to or simply turn it off completely. Also interesting how you can change the keys between linear and tactile by software. I was looking for a keyboard with Cherry MX Red's but they were too expensive and most of them didn't have a palm-rest.
Switched from MS Sidewinder x4 to this and I don't regret it. I love that it's very easy to clean. I don't use much of the RGB, but it's very customizable (from eye cancer to a dim light for every button). Never used a mechanical keyboard before, but I didn't have any trouble with it, writing or gaming. It's a bit louder that before, but I've heard worse on LAN
I guess it will take time for the wireless mechanical keyboards to be more wide spread.. I guess it's because the price and bettery life, aside from logitech g 915, all the other wireless mechanical keyboards doesn't have decent life time.
Still, the ROCCAT® Vulcan 121 AIMO looks great, but I personally wouldn't buy it, cuz once you go wireless you don't want to go wired.
I don't even remember when was the last time I owned wired mouse and keyboard for main PC.
EDIT:
It's recommended to get Switches Keyboard Tester Kit for a cheap price, you can try out all the relevant mechanical switches before buying actual one, you don't have to buy more than 3 switches if you only want to test tactile, linear and clicky.

Picked up my ROCCAT Vulcan 121 AIMO yesterday.. and DAMN is it a nice keyboard. It's more silent than my old one with Cherry MX Red switches, the keys feel different (they're very modern switches) and awesome with some slight resistance that creates a very physical feeling while being more silent than the Cherry MX Red switches.
I was worried about the RGB stuff being a complete nuisance but after having installed the software (and updating firmware blabla..) I created my custom profile and set the lighting for the entire keyboard to a very low intensity subdued dark red glow that is very comfortable without being distracting in any way. If I don't use the keyboard for a while (I guess when the screen turns off or something) the lights on the keyboard go off as well and wake up when I press a key or move the mouse.
So far I love it. Handrest is much better than on my QTek.

It's probably more than the switches giving up/oxidizing, I've noticed some weird intermittent random weirdness which is probably due to either solder joints going bad or the components on the controller PCB up on the right corner.
I'm keeping it as a spare and I may either buy a bag of Cherry MX Red switches and replace the dead ones and any iffy ones or I'll de-solder all the fully functioning ones (I'll inspect them and look for oxidation etc. first, prioritizing the keys I've used the least on the keyboard) on the QTek and sell fairly cheap as spares in bags of 10. Optionally I may sell the keyboard as a sparepart piece if I find anyone with the same keyboard that need a spare.
I really wish the QTek didn't solder the Cherry switches straight on to the big keyboard PCB, instead using those sockets that just requires you to push the switch pins into. I'll have to clean up of the pins of these switches if I decide to sell them as used parts so people can pull the old ones and easily replace in case they've got those socketed keyboards.
I'm not paying $15-$25 for a test kit, I know well enough that this keyboard that I've had and used daily for nearly a decade is going bad (mainly the big PCB since I've seen some solder points having lifted from the PCB when I repaired it the first two times). And as I said, if I decide to de-solder the Cherry switches I'll sell them in bags for cheap after checking their function properly. Don't need a test-kit for that. Besides, I may keep the keyboard as a spare (I plan on putting together a second PC from parts I already have at home to use as a NAS/media server).
I'm telling you guys get a keyboard like the Redragon. (maybe not it exactly if its not enough features for you or you want macro keys, but one made like it).
Switches are removeable. Since I got mine, I will never get a soldered in switches keyboard again.
You just pop them out, put in new ones..and your good. Takes less than a minute to change out the an entire key and switch.
Spilt a little soda in my number row keys, one stopped working. Changed out the key that stopped working and didn't even leave the RTS game I was playing with friends.
Bonus of you can change each key if you want to a different type of switch. Like I have WASD as silent brown tactile, space and enter and clicky blue tactile, and the rest linear silent blacks. If I ever change my mind and dont like it that way, swap them out.

I personly got one, 12 switches kit for 15 bucks to test what I "lost" when choosing linear over tactile and clicky, and potentially for future decsion, all the keys are basically variants of either linear, tactile or clicky with the different usually the sound and the force needed to press.
It's fun to press on clicky for a while but its becoming annoying pretty fast, linear and tactile are the best IMO.
I take it back about the wireless mechanical keyboards not being decent price, Keychron keyboards basically changed the field in terms of price and features, they basically have all the sizes, and being wireless with decent life.
What am I doing... I've ordered razer huntsman mini in white variant with v2 linear switches... I never even had tkl let alone 60%. This will hurt..
Well it's a gift from a wife actually

Damn this think is actually sweet. The switches are so smooth and sound so good. Love it.
The older I am, the more rgb I add

Compact keyboards are the fastest-growing segment of the mechanical keyboard space, a reversal of the traditional wisdom that gamers want full-size boards with tons of macro keys, media controls and other exciting doodads. Instead, these 60 percent, 65 percent, 75 percent and TKL boards focus on a clean aesthetic that's super-portable and takes up minimal desk space, while still providing all of the keys you'll need for 99 percent of modern games.
dafuq is this bullshit now
Let me guess, they also cost as much as a full fledged keyboard too?

membrane you say?
What about electro capacitive rubber dome with customizable actuation point and keys silenced even on the travel back up
Look what arrived in the mail today
The thing is as silent as I've ever heard a keyboard. Absolutely 0 rattle even on spacebar.
It is super light to type on. I am still getting used to that

Mechanical keyboards are so klunky, big and LOUD IMO!
This one is the best keyboard i´v ever had. For work and gaming.

Nah it's ok.
MX cherry and clones boards are overrated. I've had mx black and mx brown.
I would prefer what you have over mx brown for sure.
That's why I've got the NIZ, topre clone which is essentially very light rubber dome but not really At least it's very quiet and extremely satisfying.
Next one I plan to get is model M mini M from unicomp sometime next year

Update - Anyone form poland wants my x87? I don't think this whole pro, opening keyboards and lubing is for me
The keyboards is great but I need some media keys and I think I like smoothness of linears more after all.
The sound and quality is godlike but I keep looking around for something else

Sorry for resurrecting this, but i was thinking of finally moving from my Logitech G213 to something mechanical for once, but it's a bit hard to decide due to functions and the whole switches deal (Remember my 2018? message regarding dedicated multimedia keys?...Still on that topic, so so, since Logitech decided to remove the dedicated STOP key to most of his actual G series' dedicated keys, switching it to a MUTE button and no FN+F## function clearly shown on the KB)
I've been searching around and stepped onto a few ones:
-CORSAIR K70 RGB MK2 (Has the dedicated multimedia keys + STOP key, but wrist rest is hard yet rubber?). 170€...
-Logitech G513 (While not dedicated they can still be reached out with FN+F##, but that means doing some finger tango. It seems to have a comfy and smooshy wrist rest). 125€
I've tested the CORSAIR one at a shop. It had MX Red switches and...How can i explain this... They were fast to press, but maybe way too weak (aka you put the fingers on standby on the keys and they could accidentally sink in). Also the keys kind-of felt like smaller or even more distanced than my G213... While my G213 you rest the fingers and the keys are strong standing. (I was nervous so i guess i didn't typed correctly or since i was standing it didn't felt the same way as sitting and calmer, like at home)
I remember trying some of the CARBON KBs from Logitech and i think the typing feeling felt more rigid , like if salt was surrounding the keys and you could feel the grain from it run around the key..Aka it wasn't that smooth yet it kinda has the same keycap shape as the G213, just .. Different texture material?
Razer is a big no due to how noisy and not having the multimedia funcitons that i want, much less Steelseries, and we barely have other brands over here like "Redragon" or whatever (We have Ducky, but that doesn't have what i want)
As for switches i've heard that Brown are good for beginners or gaming+typing people?.. If so, are they "finger standby resistant" like my G213?

Good size with function keys, feels good to use, multiple colours to switch between, wireless or cable, comes with Mac + Windows buttons that you can change out and inexpensive. They also have bigger and smaller models with more or less keys. I bought a second recently since liked it so much.
Sadly they're TKL and i need a full sized keyboard
