depends on what your definition of soon is.
it's been in development for like half a year now and there's still probably a couple of months to go.

Didn't they make an announcement though recently, about an update coming soon because they hadn't actually had one in a long while?
Maybe I dreamed it

Oh boy im never tired of DF, i launch it occasionally, make a fort, play some days, fail and i take a rest.
Its just that no game makes me feel that nice feeling of progress and randomness with depth.
Cant wait to see the adventure mode expanded, ive never played adventure mode. So im looking forward to it.

How do the artifacts influence the fortress mode?
From what I read, they seem to be made more for the next big update (magic & something update).
I'm thinking of sending my dwarves into abyss once again. Been a very long time since I tried it last.

are there any all inclusive packs for the new release yet? Can someone be kind enough to post when there are?

Last time I played they raise the fort value (like all items you create) and will make traders bring more valuable goods and make immigrant waves bigger. They also raise room decoration significantly, put an artifact table into a dining hall and it will almost certainly become legendary.

The repo from Hubu has at least an experimental version of the AIO pack.

Obviously the white bearded guy is a forgotten beast and the naked people on the back are dwarves being hunted by the beast.

So how pissed off with the UI were you when you started playing and how long did it take to play the game comfortably?
I just can't get over the UI.

The UI got me lost AF at first. But I discovered this game in like 2005-6, and it still was "2D" DF, so there were no Z-level layers, and the game was a little bit less complex, so I guess I got used to it more quickly than a newb would today.
It's barebone, but it's quite clear IMO. Once you know the basics, you just fly through them no problem.
The one thing that really bothered me (and still does), it the change of keys for some menu navigation: sometimes it's the arrows+pgdwn+pgup, sometimes it's the numpad.
I'm also kind of self-taught, since there was no real wiki "back in the day", while now, there is a wealth of tutorials, both in writing and in video format.
The main thing that bugged me was the ASCII that I found just wayyy too dry, but the tilesets that are now available make it look like some kind of (s)NES game, which is a game-changer
Hope I answered your question

Well, you WILL fail, miserably and a lot
At first, of course. I would recommend just focusing on one aspect at a time, without really caring about even the medium-term needs.
Just embark on a site, and try to make sense of what you see, use the diffent tools of the UI to, like, select a tile and see what's on it, select a dwarf and see the different options, discover the menus, etc...
You'll be there for a little while and you'll learn a lot, without even unpausing the game!
Then try to dig around, build things, etc...
When you survive your first winter without too much trouble, you'll already have grasped the core mechanics, and from there, it's just next layer upon next layer.
I don't have a mic ATM, but if you want, we can go discord or something, and I'll be able to give you a little rundown, and answer your questions immidiately, and that will get you a long way I think
The game's worth it, it truely is an incredibly well made and fun adventure, even if at first the dorf does you raw ( ͡- ͜ʖ ͡-)
