Nope. If you're on 3.55-CFW then *nothing* is safe. Ever. Hell, just by running a backup manager you've removed any chance of being "safe" on your machine =)
Lol, i think you misunderstood my question
I meant is it safe to update killzone 3? or are there any 3.56 FW checks in the update preventing the game to start on 3.55 CFW?
Ah! To be honest, I've no idea. I doubt there are, else we'd have heard about it by now.. the collective roar of the jailbreak community would have been deafening
Doesn't matter anymore! i just finished it Awesome game. Prefer this one over part 2 i guess. Just the ending makes me want to play killzone 4 right now
OK dewds, I have the 40gb Duplex release sitting here on my PC hard drive.
How can I cut this down to nearer 20gb? Is there a specific folder I can just delete?
Secondly, does this play on external hard drive, or am I going to need to split files / rejoin them on the PS3 from my backup manager? I notice that there are some massive .psarc files - if I split them, will I need to rejoin and put on internal, or will it work like uncharted 2 and actually read the split files without the need to rejoin / put on internal hdd?
Also, I cannot remember the name of the program to split the files into 4gb chunks... DOH! Sabin, you gave me a link but everything seems to have gone - no files, no program, no bookmarked link!!!!
I just searched for multiman and the results gave me the original thread on psxscene I think. It had download link for the pc splitting program.
Then just copy from your external using multiman and it will automatically rejoin them.
1. I'm not sure about HOW, but it's definitely possible. You can delete the 3D and censored movies, that will free up around 19GB or so.
2. No, it's not playable on external yet - the UNARC app, used for extracting (not splitting! There's a MAJOR difference in those two words mate), crashes when trying to extract the .psarc from KZ3. Sadly this means internal only. So split the files to put on external, then copy to internal in your Manager to automatically rejoin them.
so the 40gb and 20gb plays the same? cuz i heard the 20gb had sound problems... does the 40 gb
has the same problems? thanks

There are over 32GB of video sequences stored on the Blu-ray disc, with game data accounting for around 9GB, all powered by a 20MB executable. Interestingly, despite having the option of using Sony's own h264-based PAMF video tech for the cinematics, Guerrilla has opted instead to use Bink - an ancient video codec with often questionable image quality that requires large amounts of bandwidth to achieve acceptable quality.
As demonstrated in our Final Fantasy XIII Endgame feature, its quality level simply doesn't compare with more recent video compression technologies, but with the space of Blu-ray available, Guerrilla can simply allocate more bitrate at the videos in order to improve quality. A six-minute cinematic occupies around 1.1GB of space on the Blu-ray disc.
At its best, the Bink video is almost a match for the same content running directly from the game engine but in fast action scenes, image quality loses consistency and macroblocking is evident.
The cinematics themselves are based on what appear to be offline renders of the game engine in action, so there is a good sense of continuity between video sequences, engine-driven cut-scenes and gameplay. However, even when allocated comparatively massively amounts of bandwidth, video artifacts are clearly seen during playback of fast-action scenes. Detail also tends to smear into macroblocks on darker areas.
The majority of the cinematics are actually stored on the disc twice. The traditional 2D video encode of each major cut-scene is joined by a stereoscopic 3D counterpart, adding around 16GB of extra bulk to the disc. The 3D versions of the videos get the same bandwidth allowance as the 2D encodes - not a problem as the stereoscopic version uses half-resolution per eye.
Conclusion :
20gb 2D version is a bad rip of those bink movies
so I got the 40gb and removed the stereo folder in the movies folder.
it was only about 13gb of videos, so there may be more that can be cut, but I didn't care as I had space on my internal.
I doubt this game is going to be very good as I hated KZ2 cos of the controls, so I'll just play it and delete it I suspect (won't keep).
Question: if I copy a game from internal to external hdd via a backup manager, and the game on internal has a large file, does the backup manager split the file for me? (just like it joins when transfering TO internal?)
I loaded the whole 40GB DUPLEX release on the internal drive and got the EBOOT.BIN fix. Working pretty good so far. The only only place where it *briefly* pauses, is when the auto-save occurs. I haven't encountered any major sound looping or any other issues.
