Fuck. My condolences. This is awful, but maybe it was time for him to rest. I remember my father's funeral, worst day of my life. Be strong and dont be afraid of talking about your feelings...

Well that funeral was yesterday and my god it was a long and very surreal day. The last time I saw my brother was pretty much 2 years ago Im sad to say. When I saw him yesterday he had been dead for over a week. The coffin was in my step mothers front room without the lid on it. This was quite a shock as I was not even expecting to see him. In a way Im glad I did though.

This was also the first time I had seen a dead body and in all honesty he just looked to be asleep. The whole experience was pretty macabre I have to say. His skin was very pale with the exception of his face which I think had some makeup applied by the funeral directors I guess to make him look less dead than he was.

There was a church service which was nice and there was a lengthy speech read out by his uncle detailing the many things he did in his short life. Then we had to travel in the funeral cars to the crematorium as my Dad decided on a cremation which also reminded me of my grandad's funeral as he was cremated at the same place.

I think I held it together pretty well. Had the lump in the throat in the church and felt I was welling up in the crematorium but I managed not to shed a single tear surprisingly. It was hard leaving the crematorium as the curtains closed around his coffin before it was sent on its way via conveyor belt.

Then there was a wake at our local community centre for many family and many friends after the brief service in the crematorium. I still cant believe he has gone even after the funeral. Just doesnt seem right. And I hope my Dad is coping ok. It really did hit him pretty hard.
