I'm starting to watch this show tomorrow but before doing that I wanted to ask you whether I should download bluray version or not.. I've got web-dls but I have no idea if HDTV\web-dl releases are censored same as Vikings.
Anyone know if the broadcast version of this show is censored? Like Vikings, which gets uncensored versions of each season on blu-ray?
It is censored, but not in the same way Vikings is where they cut scenes out entirely - for instance, there was a boob shot in last night's episode and they just blurred it.
So, hdtv version is definitely censored.
Anyways, I'll just download bluray version then..
PS I'm watching episode 3 atm and bluray version is indeed uncensored
PPS
I checked 720p HDTV (BBC America) and 1080p web-dl ep03 releases. Both are censored.Whether they are US or UK I have no idea, well, HDTV is prolly US coz BBC America
For instance, check the scene where Uhtred and Brida are having sex. Watching a bluray version you can clearly see her breasts and her nipples. In both HDTV and web-dl versions the camera is too close to see these details.
So, if you are going to watch this series keep in mind that

BluRay version is uncensored
HDTV\WEB-DL versions are censored
I've just finished watching it.What a great tv series! I actually enjoyed it much more than Vikings. The writing is really good I guess thanx to the source material although some dialogues were kinda cheesy The story seems to be kinda rushed in the end I think they should have made 10 episodes not 8.
I think it was mentioned that they needed Uhtred help coz he knew their enemies language (among other things). When they all talk in English in tv series it doesn't necessary mean they talk in English if you get my meaning. I think they used Danish language only in specific circumstances (same as in Vikings). As for the Danes, well, after you conquered a foreign continent and ruled there for years you would most certainly learn the language of the country you invaded. At least to a certain extent that makes a simple conversation possible.Same applies to Englishmen.
But maybe it is better presented in the books, I haven't read them although I intend to.
Anyhow, language transformations are inevitable in this case.
You could read something on the English language history and how all these numerous invasions influenced it if you are interested in this.
