So blonde is so worried about “muh Polina!!!11” Then she gets robbed and suddenly she is “fuck Polina, muh club!!!11” So instead of using the gangsta fuckboy to just track down the thieving gigolo, she goes to the Yakuza boss to get a loan and get in bed with the Yakuza for life. Totally make sense, of course.
It’s too soapy. I haven’t read the book, so don’t know if all that is there, but it feels to me like it’s focusing on too much filler shit, rather than focus on Adelstein/Katagiri. All the yakuza fuckboy’s intro to yakuza and the wife of the sick yakuza and the young wannabe can’t cut it yakuza and the fucking clubs and the blonde and Polina, and the love triangle. So much filler crap. And of the lowest quality variety, just not very interesting.
what i dont get is the fascination about japanese culture, as to why would some muricans leave everything behind to move and start a new life there when they are viewed badly by most.
Well it was hinted that both Jake and blond had issues they run away from. But it is well known that many people go to these strange culture countries to make a lot of money in relatively short time. Many shitty to mediocre Elvis impersonators go to Japan and make a fortune. Many women go to arab countries to “party” with princes and make a fortune.
That was another baka cliffhanger on steroids indeed, bloody kuso hell
Although it's obviously not a bad thing per se, the season did end rather abruptly and felt almost anti-climatic as if it was meant to be longer and better organized (which is probably the case). Still, I enjoyed the tone, acting and the atmosphere overall, it's a fairly conventional story involving organized crime but with its own interesting flavours due to the different Japworld and their ways of life. Tough Yakuzamen all being about manly honour, yet using it as a device to cover up their many weaknesses. Hopefully, there will be a second season - should be mandatory, you..can't just leave it like that! - if possible with gaijin Elgort still in it despite the ongoing #meelodrama that's been surrounding him.
I also went back to episode 1 and watched the intro again as it never came back to that. I assume it's where S02 will pick up from? Both characters are pretty scuffed up by the end of S01 yet they look flawless in that first scene. What is it in reference to? Something much further along in the story? Or did I miss something in typical gaijin fashion?
I thought it was going to get cancelled. I think it got really low rating but S1 was very good.
Episode 1 of season 1 was very good, because it was directed by Mann. Later episodes just endlessly dragged and very little actually happened the whole season. Probably should have been a movie by Mann, rather than a show.
