XCX still has the best open world design of all time IMO, difficult to top, as for the main character, well that is Elma obviously, the player character is just there for the ride.

Map navigation is fine, you can hit R3 to enlarge the minimap during gameplay or hotkey L2+X to open the full map and set waypoints, quick travel etc. Xenoblade maps were never good for verticality and thats not really fixed here either, but you can make the game show the exact gps route straight to the destination if you have trouble figuring out how to get to different elevations, which is a welcome feature.

nah campaign will be around 50-60 like most of em, but as always there is shitloads of optional content that will easily fill up over 100 hrs.
I played around 35 hours so far and am probably midway in the story at most, maybe 1/3, I did side content too along the main quest but there is still plenty stuff open.

hopefully works with vulkan now, cuz the shader cache stutter on opengl is unbearable even without the crashes.
i am prolly gonna finish the game on switch before an acceptable emu solution is there, but thats ok.

Finished it after over 100 hrs, including plenty side content, but I still have a lot more to explore and do.
Overall a great game and I definitely prefer it to XC2 in most aspects, sure the characters here also tend to go on and on forever about things, especially repeating some story beats over and over close to the end, but it was a very fitting sendoff for the XC trilogy.
The story takes most of its big twists halfway through and the last stretch is a bit uninspired, in comparison XC2 has some nice twists in the very last chapters but 90% of the plot until then was basically upgrading your big tit animu ex machina waifu to one with different coloured hair.
I prefer the more interconnected world of 3 to the many small zones of 2 but that's a personal preference. As Yondaime said, the characters do tend to go on preaching later on and it does get a bit annoying, but they still have easily the best written dialogues in the series, especially compared to the absolutely insufferable, imo, cast of 2 (excluding Torna).
I give the game extra points for the unexpected Xenogears-style designs, there is a place in the game later on that looks like it was taken straight out of Xenogears and remade, including mech and vehicle designs that reminded me alot of that game.
My personal favourite is still XCX, and I even liked it's story alot, when you consider that all the optional character sidequests are an important part of it (which many ppl skipped).
With this trilogy over now, Tetsuya can give us XCX2 and after that Nintendo will buy the Xenogears franchise from Squareenix so we can finally get the long overdue remake of Xenogears on the next Nintendo console, I believe in it!

I really liked 1, 2 seemed like total shit, sold it off pretty quickly.

X is good on many levels, but the world reminded me of a MMO which eventually just made me lose interest, the world is just so dead, Bethesda and CDPR gets it (while perhaps not great with other aspects).

I'm struggling getting through 3, combat is still a bit slowpaced waiting for cooldowns, but i think the worst part is how awful the writing is at the start. it started out all serious and dark but now i'm suddenly doing hero quests that lets the team just walk into colonies and have their commander cooperate, and just go ahead smash the flameclocks. meanwhile the consuls don't give a shit even though they're already there and know about what's going on in the colony, and they just let you go ahead and do these things. talk about inept. sheesh


anyway hopefully i can get over it, beat this game, and move to xcx

Did you guys play on easy? this game is shit. Absolute fucking shit. 20 minute fucking fights. Garbage devs confusing this with a mmo. 2 healers, 2 tanks and they cant keep each other up worth shit. Try doing a flame clock and they'll die like absolute morons. Doesnt help that they keep transforming and letting the rest of the party die Laughing

1 and 2 at least had scales that were manageable and not 3000 party members who keep doing nothing until they die.

I was fighting mobious b something in colony 9 base. Everything has been manageable, but he just kept nuking my party and awesomely a low hp tank kept being a low hp tank. No clue what my healers were doing. Got him to 10% or so before i croaked. AND IT TAKES SO FUCKING LONG! Sad

I'm on normal, getting annoyed when I get wiped when fighting those unique monsters that drop a challenge marker, just because I pulled in another mob but didn't notice because the screen gets pretty cluttered in combat. Combat against similar level mobs also takes too long IMO, so I might drop to easy.

That is one of my other main issues. The HP scaled for a massive party = takes a long time to kill.

Just did chronicles definitive edition epilogue before 3 and it was really comfortable. Everything felt balanced, and i believe 2 was much the same.

I had no issues on normal, all battles went pretty fast, but like Yondaime I did side content along with main story so I was pretty much always above rec level.
As you unlock more mechanics and classes, the battles go even faster.

Enjoy a class with its playstyle? WELL FUCK YOU! now you've gotta change everyone around and either play some tank or switch to another character playing your favourite class way worse than you did before.

This game is just full of terrible design.

nobody forces you to level all the classes on all the characters.
I found it alot of fun trying out all these different classes and playstyles instead of just sticking to a single role per character.

You are a bit forced to swapping to get the right skills. Crit%, 40% phys dmg etc. Also good arts for dual art. When you are happy you can stick to it of course.

But this is a dumb game do not forget. You know what happens when you overlevel content? Game tells you to level and have fun, what happens is that you dont get enough CP to unlock classes for the others unless you find a zone matching you level Laughing atrocious

Otherwise the story and general gameplay has grown on me. But it has its fucking faults.

Yea the overleveling is shit, but ah well its also my playstyle to do sidequests next to main story so I always have that issue.

What helps is that (not a spoiler), after finishing the game it lets you de-level at campfires, ie. change the level to whatever you want at any time, i just keep my level around 3 below the recommended one for the quest and ranking up the classes goes so fucking fast.
So you could just finish the main story first and then do all the side stuff.
