Pretty sure working with socially vulnerable groups (kiddies, oldies, crazies) here, requires confirmation from police that you haven't had certain criminal cases opened against you of late. If you ask me which exactly this 'certain' entails, I can't tell. My guess, paedo variety is no go for sure.

In many states, Florida being one of the worse, any job can lookup if you been convicted of any crime, at all ever. There is no backlog limit of time. You could be 80 and arrested when you was 18, they can see it, what it was, why it was, the case and police reports for it and so on.
Even if I wanted to apply for garbage man, or janitor in a warehouse. They can dig around all they want.

Most southern US states are like that: Employers can look up your entire history, and if a citizen of that state wants they can request anyone's background at anytime but just walking into a state records building and asking for it.

This is not true. Employers can ask for a certificate of good conduct and may only ask for convictions that are relevant for the job. For instance, a convicted pedophile would be denied a certificate for a teaching job.

To clarify, here they ask you first if they can check up your criminal history (depending on seriousness the crime stays in register 5 to 10 years, then it goes to Archive where it can be still accessible for up to 50 years when you apply for very sensitive jobs). But the register if publicly available to use, you get a notification in your email if someone looks it up.

But if you say you don't give consent to look up your history, they of they course deny your application here Laughing
