u post from work? what do u do again?
u lucky fucker lol
Thats one reason I wouldnt mind workin in an office (i assume u work in an office of some sort) - u can fuck around with entertaining shit...the only way i can dog fuck with my job is stopping to have a smoke or stopping to go grab coffees and smoke a joint ya know? lol like that takes all of 10 mins
I work at CIHI (canadian inst for health information) as a programmer/analyst up at yonge and eglinton.
sometimes programs i write take like 30-45 mins to run (sometimes less) ... I keep myself entertained while I'm waiting
Yonge and Eg eh? I should drop by and visit ya lol
What kinda programs do u write? Like, I wanted to get into computer programming when i was younger, I learn C++, VB and some web based langs like HTML, php and shell scripting...but the one thing that made me kinda just put it to the side was the fact I dont understand the way the industry works. Like, I can understand if u write like one big app or game or something...cuz it would take a while. But u say u write a buncha small appz...I dont understand why u would need to do that...like, why doesnt the company just hire a few programmers initally, have them write every imaginable program they may need at the time, then let them go. And if they need some next programs, hire a programmer for like week contract to write however many progs u need...
I dunno if im being clear or not but please like give me an example of what u do on a regular basis...its interesting and ive never understood how it all works
I don't make appz or anything like that. I write programs to process and statistically analyze health data from a large database (well ... a bunch of them). Each program I write has to be tailored to the question(s) I'm trying to get answers for. I use a language that's not really that complex (arrays and macros are as hard as it gets) .. it's called SAS.
You know when you go to the hospital? When you're discharged an abstract with all the details of your hospitalization (whether acute/ambulatory/emerg care) go into a database that my work looks after -- for all of Canada. Demographics/diseases/interventions/drugs/financial information ... everything. Of course all this health data is confidential and protected by the Privacy Act. The information and analysis is supposed to be used to improve the functioning of the health care system and to direct policy making decisions.
So yeah... not really the programming I think you were thinking of. There are hardcore programmers at my work that maintain the mainframes/servers etc. , but that's not me
