Tho at that age, I think, kids don't look at price tags. Even if they do, they won't understand what's really put into getting that amount of money. They just see a bunch of numbers. Sad

Jenni, you sound like you’re raising a pack of reasonable kids.
I think that if you do get her the bike, you won’t have to worry much. Very Happy

I said prize/seize Wink

But i know what you mean:)

Also you aint spoiling kids by giving them what they want for christmas, you are spoiling kids when you cant say no to them or be mad at them.

Okay, too late now, but my opinion:

I got my firts 50cc bike when i was about 7.. (maybe it was the same year i turned 8, not sure Razz)
And for me atleast, it worked perfectly fine. My dad taught me riding it, next day i was riding around on my own on the lawn. It´s all about teaching them the riding technique correctly, and to take it easy. And you know your kid best, would she be responsible about it? If yes, then go for it Smile

Okay now not being able to make my mind up on what to get Emma (daughter) for her main present for Xmas. She's just mentioned what she wants. A small motorbike.

My husband (I just rang him) said go get her one.

I'm not too sure. I hate motorbikes. I've known two people which have been killed on them and another who lost his arm when he fell asleep going home.

So she;s 8 shall I get her one.

Seriously, I think yes. I haven't read all the replys because I have to run but I had one. Well my dad bought my sister one and we were suppose to share. Anyway. It was a 50 cc and it didn't go that fast. You need someplace legal to ride it tho. We rode it up in the bush.

She hit the gas once and did a wheely into the bushes but she was fine. Just don't buy her a super powerfull one. Learning is easy to. Like riding a bike. Very Happy

Jesus christ, I'm not a parent but 400 quid for an 8 yr old?

I know generalities suck but its all about balance and moderaation. Sometimes you spoil sometimes your harsh thats the way it goes, swings and roundabouts. As long as the lessons are even by the time she starts to mature.

Sorry to say but the thing that annoys me about mothers so much is this need to provide a "better life" you only guide your child into adulthood with the lessons you decide to teach and message you wish to put accross, gifts and money don't create a "better life" for children at least not in my book.

Anyway I hope you have a wonderful christmas with your family, bless.

This niggah has to step back to the block cus emtion is weakness where im from, stay up YA HEARD

£400 isn't a lot of cash in the scheme of things, I'm just giving her the things I never had as a child.

Although it is a lot for an eight year old. But she won't be abled to spend it without my say so.

Thanks for the good wishes though, it really is apreciated.

Being a parent is not about giving your kid everything they want. It is about protecting them and teaching them right from wrong. Sure your kid might be disappointed Dec 25th but that too is a valuable lesson in life. You can't get everything you want!

I know you already know all this Jenni but I didn't know how else to express it.

I agree but she doesn't get everything she wants. And it is only once a year. Besides, she is missing her daddy.

Remember it is also a present from him.

Jenni if you feel as a parent that £400 is an acceptable amount to give your child then that is your call. But to give it to her for your childhood shortcomings seems to me to be a real bad choice. You obviously understand why you want to give her the money which has good intentions but an 8 year old child I think couldn't understand. From her perspective it is a fortune!

£400 of gifts on the other hand is different. Spreading it accross different items is a good thing. But a lump sum devaules the money and the idea of it. I'm a bit harsh becuase I didn't have alot of money as a kid. So maybe my perspective is crazy to lol.

I agree with your point about it being once a year, and children should enjoy christmas and be spolit a little I don't think missing her father is justification for this choice. That emtional support has to be provided by yourself and can't be filled with money or gifts.

Anyway, your daughter has a mother and a father who obviously care for her and i'm sure tomorrow will be a special day. To me that seems enough cus theres alot of broken homes about. I also think you should find a parentling forum and not resolve these things on nforce Razz im a crack dealer in the ghetto giving advice here so please take with a pinch of salt Very Happy

Blessings and merry christmas

True, she is devoid of fatherly support. But what the hell it is only once a year.

I know you're selling yourself short niggah, you're far too intelligent to say who you are. But if that's what you want your alter ego to be, far from it for me to say otherwise.

You're talking about a pocketbike, right?

Well, iv got one. My brothers use it sometimes, but never on the road. They aren't legal. Anything that motordriven and goes above 6km\t and aren't registered are illegal here.

And a 11 year old managed to get killed on one of those. They got slicks tiers and bicycle breaks. And mine goes 70km\t. Why im still alive... i have no ide Laughing
