well ... took my whole computer to pieces.... it actually looked like there was almost no paste left on the cpu/bottom of heatsink ... plus there was like an inch of dust and shit. used a can of pressurized air to clean out all the dust from the motherboard ... applied a bunch of arctic silver, put the whole bastard back together again ....

both the motherboard sensor and cpu temperature read about 10-15 degrees cooler now ... so hopefully that was the problem. guess I'll have to wait and see...

Did you clean both surfaces thoroughly before re-applying the AS5? From your post above it sounds like you cleaned some dust and splashed on some more TIM.

Make sure you get the heatsink and the CPU or whatever it was squeaky clean before applying the compound. Also if it's a Core 2 Duo they have updated their application method from a single grain to a strip down the center followed by a very small twist of the heatsink.

I personally drop some on the exposed CPU and grab some saran wrap and evenly distribute it with my finger and then make it as even as possible with a card.

/EDIT: Nvm, looking at that pic, that's no C2D! LoL!

^^ yeah Kamel, I used rubbing alcohol + q-tip and got both as clean as possible ... I used a credit card to spread the AS paste evenly Smile
