Right. Which kind of sounds like the old way to do it... ;p
Is it up to me to find the latest ipa or is it coming from Apple?
Because the iPhone "scene" doesn't always release the latest versions of apps. At least they didn't before... |

I have Installous installed and I just download the apps via my iphone and they install.. they also sync with itunes.. I'm guessing to get the newest version I would just need to redownload them as I did before through my iphone application!

Right. 
Thanks though, guys, answered my questions.
I don't mean to really COMPLAIN about getting the apps for free, just wondered if anything had changed.
I think I'll jailbreak anyways.
EDIT: Oops... maybe I'll wait for 3.1 to be properly jailbroken instead... ;p |

I should be finally getting my 32GB 3GS today. Ive only been trying to get one for 2 months lol. It best have been worth the wait and the self hype Ive acquired!
Edit 1:
Got my iPhone but Im having some trouble. Ive successfully jailbroken it with redsn0w 0.8 but I cannot add the cracked ipa files. It wont sync and it wont even sync legit apps! Not sure whats gone wrong but something has! Anyone any ideas?
Edit 2:
Ah crap its stuck on the boot up screen! Ive buggered it up and it wont let me restore 3.0.1 via iTunes. I get an error that the build I have isnt eligible! Im having to try and restore to the latest 3.1 version now.

Try previous itunes version because the last one may be preventing it from syncing an old firmware version.

So iPhone 3.1 hasn't been jailbroken yet? I was stuck on 3.0 and nearly went to 3.1
I'll wait now, even if 3.0 doesn't have the iTunes DJ stuff I can't wait for!

It has, but not for 3GS or some iPod touches (I personally don't follow the iPod Touches..)

Whilst I wait for a jailbroken 3.1 3GS, I have some iPhone apps related questions if anyone can answer them?
1. How many apps can I store on a 32gb 3GS? I have filled 11 pages and when I download more, they no longer display their icons but if I do a search I can find them.
2. Is there a way to bookmark apps so I can bring them up at a later date to download?
3. Is there a way to find out how much my paid apps cost? There are some I am considering deleting but Id rather get rid of the ones I haven't paid for! It doesn't seem to say how much I paid for them.

You can store as many apps as you have space for but you will only see the 11 pages worth until you Jailbreak and use Categories to store them into different file folders. It took Apple 2 years to add the extra 2 pages with the 3.0 firmware as the old number was 9 and you could not find any non displayed apps since there was no search function before.
I know when I buy apps, Apple sends me invoices with price totals so if you deleted those emails, then you may want to look at your account info and see if they store those invoices somewhere in it.

im also stuck on 3.1 got a new 3gs 16gb and for some reason it was already on 3.1 -_-
apparently you might not be able to unlock 3.1 EVER, but jailbreak should be here soon
oh and downgrading for 3gs 3.1 users is not possible unless you entered your ECID nr in cydia or some shit :S

Yah 3.1 has been JB'd, but only if you were JB'd at 3.01. Sadly I'm also on 3.1 3gs, noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. ;p

Well, I see on his webpage that a lot of people are having success, but for me I have gotten none.
For the record was running iPhone 3.1, updated to 3.1.2 before attempting this. Also I don't care about "unlock" as I have AT&T, so I was only aiming for jailbreak.
Ran blackra1n.exe and it seems to make it to the last step, the "done, wait for reboot" step. However, this is where my phone freezes and makes it no farther. I can manually reboot from here but the jailbreak is unsuccessful.
I then tried to wipe all my content from my phone to start it over from scratch, and ran blackra1n.exe again, same thing happens.
No 3.1.2 3GS jailbreak for me just yet.
EDIT: Well, I kept at it, I hate being defeated! So finally it now worked for me.
iPhone 3GS, 3.1.2 jailbroken from WinXP.
When my phone would freeze at the "done, wait for reboot" step, I closed blackra1n.exe and re-ran it, while leaving phone the way it was (stuck at black screen).
Finally the blackra1n pic popped up on my phone and restarted properly. Now I have blackra1n app installed on phone which allows me to install Cydia, Icy, or Rock.
So epic! Never unjailbreaking again!

Edit:
I cant believe how simple and straightforward this is! That gehot guy is a genius! Apple must be fuming lol.
So I ran the exe and the procedure went without a hitch and now the phone has rebooted and working fine. How do I know if it is now Jailbroken and where do I get Cydia from?
I also ran Blackra1n from a 3.1 3GS. Can I now connect to iTunes and update to 3.1.2 or will that kill the jailbreak?
As you might know this is all new stuff to me! But exciting! lol.
BTW anyone think Geohot looks like Elijah Wood? I keep picturing him everytime I see that guys picture lol.
Edit 2:
Just reread sTo0z's post and he mentioned an app installed on the iphone. Couldnt see as all 11 pages are full lol so I used spotlight search and found the Blackra1n app!

Just now messing around with Installous, kinda' sucks but seems like the easiest way to get apps... Feels so good to be jailbroken again!
