While I agree that in this case the methods are OK, the RIAA and MPAA have been sleezy assholes in the past, from the guy they sued for distributing LOTR RTOK months before it was even finished, to the many subpoena's they have ordered, many of which are illegitimate (If they do not have definitive proof, they have no right to issue a subpoena, but they do anyway, and bother innocent people). Or how about that time they dressed up (impersonated) in police/official gear and threatened a guy to make him take down a stand where he was selling CD's and Tape's (They do not have the authority to do this, they can sue the guy, but actually physically approaching him and impersonating an authority figure... I don't know how they didn't get sued for this).

And then there are all the suits that have been filed against THEM. What really, really, pisses me off, is that they pay off the ones they lose with their left over shit that they were planning on throwing away, they should be forced to use legal tender, not shit they didn't need anyways.

Anyways. Acceleron is an idiot.

And I hate the RIAA and MPAA.

Cheez-it. You may have some difficulty dealing with this, but there are people that reword what other people have already posted to get a chance to pop off a cheap insult at someone making an unpopular argument. These people are called idiots. You are one of them.

Did I ever expressly state that "no lawsuit ever filed by the **AA has been justified"? No. They do file suits that are remotely understandable. Such as a suit for ripping off an early edition of a major blockbuster. This loses them money, because it is going to one place that no movie should ever go: bootleggers. I might be for warez, and I might be against the RIAA/MPAA, but if there is one group of people I rabidly detest, it is bootleggers. They are, really, the ones to blame for the entire fiasco. Do you really think the RIAA has nothing better to do than go after 12-year olds or operators of some obscure site that provides access to bad copies to a bunch of warez nerds? Not I. The reason this is happening is because a part of those have the audacity to manufacture copies and profit in doing so. These are the ones they should go after, as they are the ones making money off of it, and are the ones causing real "lost sales".

I cannot speak for you, but I loosely monitor the consumerist marketing schemes the industry is pumping out, "... soggy romantic movie...." "... another cheezy (full pun intended) comedy based loosely on a much better novel.." "... heartwarming story..." et cetera. For these lame pieces of shit, I am a lost cause. There are good movies that come out once in a while, albums worth tolerating the fact that you are giving 95% of your money to the **AA, to buy. I own several of them, such as Andy Hunter's Exodus, an Emiliana Torrini disc, Manson's 'Lest We Forget', Rammstein's 'Reise Reise' and about 70 other worthwhile titles. Sadly, the majority of the albums released by the craphouses (for so I have nicknamed the studios that greenlight this crap) are not worth a first glance, let alone a second. Recently, in a visit of the Midtown Virgin Megastore, I picked up 12 albums, 7 of which I had on my PC and 5 of which were recommended by my friends. Along the way I was curious enough to pick up a random album off the shelves. To my great chagrin, that album was Lindsay Lohan's debut, "Speak". Worse music than this I have never heard. Not one of the songs on that disc was original enough, or decently produced, for that matter. All were knockoffs of some pop diva or other. I was in a state of shock: this was greenlighted? I knew the studios released crap, but this? To reassure myself, I went to the Rock section and found a name whose music had always given me faith that there was still some talent in music: Linkin Park. As I looked at the cover of their new CD, and read the words "Jay Z", an ominous feeling began to work it's way through my stomach leaving what felt like puree in it's wake. I reached the listening station, half ready to be reassured and half to be ultimately dissappointed, when my expectations of the crew who had brought me "Figure.08" crumbled. Instead of hearing the familiar talent of intricately fused techno and rock, I was greeted with "I'm a pimp in every sense of the word, bitch", "Mu'ufuckaz wanna act loco", and "I gawt 99 problems bu' a bitch ain't one". My respect for the music industry shattered. It was no longer "Reanimation" that was being greenlighted. It wasn't even Usher. It was a blasphemy in the face of music, an atrocity of the mutilated remains of rock. This we are expected to buy on impulse? I think not.

As for Midget 85's comment, I admit I went a bit far. Yes, a distributor site is not in the same category per se as filesharers, but technically, the distributors did nothing illegal. Did they know they were being used to pirate? Definitely. Did they have an incentive for putting up the site? Likely. Did they openly do anything illegal? Unlikely. What disturbs me is not that the **AA is going after the warez distributors, but the fact that they are working outside the law, or very close thereto, to do so. If corporations are allowed to persist in doing so, we may soon find our legal system respecting it's corporate sources of income more than it's fundamental responsibilities. Is it fair to corps to force them to work within the law while the pirates work outside of it? No. Is there, in my opinion, another way to keep their ambitions in check? Not from where I stand.

Oh, and Cheez-it:
