Isn't it strange that the 2500K is priced the same as the 3570K? I know the SB is supposed to run a bit cooler and OC better, bu the one I'm buying it for doesn't care about extreme OC. I would have expected the 2500K would drop in price.

Same here, tho here it's still around €20,- more expensive. Really strange indeed that price difference is that low.

Yep, looks fine Mister_s.
It's not weird that they're the same price btw, because technically the 2500K is EOL; the IB is the direct replacement

That is a build for a friend of mine, but it would go over budget for you since there's no GPU in it. If you'd be OK with going slightly over budget, it'd work for you too obviously.

That wasn't meant for you KC. Mister_s hijacked your thread for a bit to build a PC for someone else

I am still curious why not amd.
AMD Phenom II X4 960T is way cheaper than intel
same with 7xxx cards

The Phenom II X4 960T is a good amount below the 3570K, of course it's cheaper.

You're kinda being like the guy that wanted monitor advice a few months ago, and he end up purchasing something really terrible. Save up money for better stuff, or you may very well end up with a computer very quickly with the new console gen knocking on the door. (Any specs available for the new consoles by the way?)

Because AMD quite simply are behind Intel on every front KC. That 960T you mention is also 2 years old, massively outdated; the only AMD CPU that gets anywhere near a 2500K is the FX-8150. It's about 20 EUR cheaper, but still loses to the 2500K on most fronts. If you want to go AMD, you go with Bulldozer (the FX-81xx's). Here's something from Anand's review:
Quote: | In many cases, AMD's FX-8150 is able to close the gap between the Phenom II X6 and Intel's Core i5 2500K. Given the right workload, Bulldozer is actually able to hang with Intel's fastest Sandy Bridge parts. We finally have a high-end AMD CPU with power gating as well as a very functional Turbo Core mode. Unfortunately the same complaints we've had about AMD's processors over the past few years still apply here today: in lightly threaded scenarios, Bulldozer simply does not perform. To make matters worse, in some heavily threaded applications the improvement over the previous generation Phenom II X6 simply isn't enough to justify an upgrade for existing AM3+ platform owners. AMD has released a part that is generally more competitive than its predecessor, but not consistently so. AMD also makes you choose between good single or good multithreaded performance, a tradeoff that we honestly shouldn't have to make in the era of power gating and turbo cores. |
Games = lightly threaded. All your desktop shit = lightly threaded.

AMD processors these days is all about MOAR COERS!111 Clock vs clock performance has went down (FX series are even crappier than old Phenom II in games). I remember when i bought my i5 and i had 4.3ghz 1055T (6-core), difference was insane in some games.
So in other words, dont touch AMD processors even with a stick, just get intel.

It's enough for a "good" gaming rig, but not a gaming rig that can play maxed out at 1080p and will last you for atleast a couple of years.

I'd never advise anyone to buy an expensive PC. Get good parts now and upgrade later on if you need to. Buy a good PC, leave some headroom and hunt for that great used GPU. Always worked for me. I never paid full price for any of my GPUs, you can get great GPUs for a very reasonable price if you're patient.

True, but core components shouldn't be on budget. Especially when it comes to CPU.

CPUs generally have a much longer shelf-life than GPUs, so that's the one component you should splash out on at the start. The i5-25k/35k will still last another couple of years at least, whereas something like a GTX560 wouldn't.

Couldn't agree more, albeit I feel quite safe with my 570 for now.
