Sin317 wrote: | so, saw that stuff about the bad thermal paste used in the IHS on the ivy, so i figured, lets give it a try and remove it. But once i took the cpu out, it didn't really looked like its possible to take it off. I mean, the IHS is really REALLY close to the PCB of the chip and its like cutting into the plastic more then anything. So i dropped it and put it back in and while i was at it, i added a second fan to my 212, so now it has push and pull air. Thing is, there certainly is a big difference in temps between the cores. Core0 is the coolest, now in idle, its 21C. Core1 is 32, Core3 25 and Core3 32 ... and under prime95, its pretty much the same difference.
So i was wondering. Is it possible, that intel started to solder the IHS on newer batches of the 3750k maybe ? Or did i just not try good enough, to remove it?
Btw, i have it run at 4.4ghz now, at 1.225V and in prime it hardly goes over 70. |
I think it's normal for core's to have different temps at idle, mine are something like 18, 22, 28, 30 on idle, but when I go under load they all sit around the same temp.
If you do ever decide to delid please take some pics. I don't think I would ever have enough balls to do it personally.

I really dont think its worth the risk, if you do not have money to throw away. If your IB does 4.5Ghz with reasonable temps, thats more than you will ever need. And by the time you would need more, a few 0.X Ghz, would do no noticable difference.
So unless you plan on breaking personal records in synthetic benchmarks, there is no need to fiddle with the heatspreader imo.
edit:

I dont really get it how 99% is fucking up their processor, they do it too fast or tying too much. |
10-15c?!! Forget what I just said! Delid your CPU NAO! You have a new personal record to make!

I still dont get it why Intel hasnt still fixed this on newer batches.. Haswell probably has bubblegum in middle the IHS and core, or alternatively toothpaste.

I think Intel know perfectly well what they are doing. I suppose its part of their "vision". (The term "vision" is a trademark of EA/Maxis)
