Sorry to say, but people can be fools. They do it because they have always done it, and all English voice overs sucks and is always inferior to the quality of the original spoken language (in their minds). I asked my brother about the logic behind it, but got no logical response. Take Ni No Kuny for example. That game has anything BUT bad voice overs, they are actually pretty fucking good. I showed my brother the quality of the English voice overs and he agreed, but 20 minutes later he played with Japanese voice overs again with no understanding of the Japanese language.

Don't mean to offend anyone, but this thing has me furiously annoyed Razz

The quest for "original dub only! EN dub sucks!!" is just ridiculous. This isn't the 80s and 90s any more, English VA is excellent these days - it's not cheap crappy dubs any more, but oh well, to each his own Smile

I haven't been drawn into a game (especially an RPG) in a long time, but really enjoying this one! I never even finished Vesperia. Sad

Feels good to be hooked on a big adventure again. Loving the combat.

As good as the JAP Dubs are in many games (and i do greatly respect the japanese voice over culture), i end up switching to english most of the time cuz its just more relaxed to play... i dont wanna stare at subtitles all the time. This might enrage the common otaku, but hey! Wink

It was OK really. The story is actually pretty interesting and it was only that which kept me hooked. Truly awful dialogue much of the game. They kept speaking in circles, generally repeating themselves or others the whole time. Also they have really weird replies to certain situations which make no sense. You got to see it to get what i mean.

Themes like "becoming/being an adult, your goal in life, friendship etc etc is a big part of the game. Those themes were spoken to such unrealistic degrees that it made the whole experience deteriorate as a result.

I have no clue how anyone can think this is some good writing. They speak about people changing, but they act as one dimensional as they have throughout the entire game.

Vesperia doesn't have most of this, and feels much better. Much better. Currently done with the city ruins so i still have a lot left to do Razz

yeah, but the little problem there is the characters acting moves.
you can be the best voice-actor of the universe, but will never be perfect like the original voice acting: the way the character moves, talk and tell jokes it's way different by any culture, it's less marked on non-jrpg but on these type of games is pretty much clearer what's the best.
i've played recently Valkyria chronicles with jap dub / eng sub (pretty amazed that the game was on dual audio! Very Happy ), the subs didn't respect what the actor was saying, ruining some part of the bound by the main character and the adotped sister (luckily me i've learned some basic knowledge on some japanese words); i checked later for some tips on the last boss over youtube and the eng VA wasn't that good even on the actors... but at least, i could enjoy that because of the OPTION of dual audio.
of course it's totally individual preference, but at least for me in italy, we don't have these greatest voice actors (except for homer simpson, he was even more funnier than the original! too bad he passed away few months ago... ) and if i want to see/play something, i'm gonna search for the english one for more references or jokes that are changed or even DELETED to make sense in my language( the most common case is The Big Bang Theory and i really don't wanna start a war over that. Rolling Eyes ) : something translated on english and that translation will get translated to more languages... of course will be problems on that, something gonna slip, cutted, changed.
i get what you are trying to say, because it happened to me on metro2033 with the original russian audio that had me to switch back on eng/eng; but i love the japanese voices by anime influence over the years, so it's pretty enjoyable until i have some good subs with it.
it's jut that i hate not seeing the option to see the original audio of a movie/game or whatsoever... i mean, you ALREADY have all the audio recorded for a previous game release, years ago, why not putting inside? not that a blu-ray doesn't have any space left...

sorry for the WoT but i wanted to explain my reason on searching for the holy grail... and for the records officials italians subs, on games, really sucks: a single important word, like a city/quest item, can get very ugly changing the meaning of it entirely. (good luck finding some help on english guides/FAQ trying to translate that. Laughing )

by the way, can't wait to get my hands on the game the very next monday! Very Happy

Eww, the silent protagonist crap doesn't work for me.. Especially not in this game with only moaning sounds where you don't get any choices. Feels really awkward and it simply doesn't work.

how is the game itself?

too much rehashed stuff from 1?

i like playing jrpgs because its a whole new world to explore every time, if this game rehashes most of the stuff then there is no point in playing it for me.

the characters and story are never what makes a tales game fun (well vesperia had the best characters).

Vesperia definitely had the best characters of any Tales game i've played. But i only played 5 minutes. The awkwardness and disappointment by having a silent protagonist and getting 2 choices to select from every two seconds left me a bit traumatized so i paused the game and the ps3 is still running with it on pause So i can't answer about rehashing etc or how much you interact with the characters from the first one. I hope they're not just side shows though.

ah well, still playing trails in the sky on pc anyway, which is a better jrpg, so i ll just wait for others to take the plunge first.
from what i read, quite a big chunk of the game is rehashed after all, so i m not sure whether i wanna play this.
