Clunky as it is the Steam console should be usable for downloading the old depots before these changes, not like Rockstar will update the game with anything meaningful from the looks of things unless they decided to somehow just outright annihilate the old depots and files with this update which I didn't expect to be possible but apparently it can be done and going back to older versions isn't always 100% reliable as a result.

Funniest part is if you're using the GFWL version this shit is likely optional only (assuming they'll still even bother releasing it). If you have it on steam however then you're shit out of luck because sooner or later your game will be patched with this shit, unless you do what jbeckman describes above Sad

Yeah it's either letting it update and then restoring the files with the older version of the depots and then hopefully the game won't see further updates unless they actually decide to remove GfWL properly for Steamworks and maybe some other fixes though I guess that would be the only change and it's probably not happening after all this time.

Or use the custom music channel or wait for a mod to restore the removed files to the proper radio stations, maybe together with the new inclusions.

In hindsight it was the worst GTA anyway, doesn't matter. Razz

Next time Rockstar should maybe do some research and hire native speakers instead of using lazy fake accents with google translation.
It's just funny how a yugoslavian who just reached NY can speak perfect english with a slight accent while absolutely failing to speak his own language Laughing

Yeah, it was completelly terrible. Those actors obviously had no connection whatsoever with any southerslavic language. Of course, 98% of their voiceover is in English so they had to hire someone native instead of random dishwashing ex-YU immigrant, but come on, with their budget, they could find someone second-generation who can speak both...

I bought it on release and put in some good 20 hours because I paid so much for it but there were sooooo many off-putting things:

- The entire game felt bleak and brown
- the phone ... dear LORD the phone
- walking felt slow and unresponsive
- car behaviour was just unappealing - made driving a lot less fun
- they removed many arcade elements from the older GTA games like finding hidden power ups
- the shadows looked like shit
- performance was a joke on PC. Terrible optimization.
- the premise was dull. Vice City still had the best premise but here you had a dull story combined with a bleak setting.
- the music stations were pretty meh to me

Vice City for me is still by FAR the best GTA game.

The III trio of games felt like they experimented a bit with different styles and concepts now that the series had gone full 3D, GTA IV appears to have been a showcase for the new X360 hardware and also going for a more realistic dramatic story though not without it's humorous elements (Even more so for the DLC.) though it was marred by the social bit and visually it's pretty bleak looking plus the hardware back then and trying to push the engine and PC port to it's limits made for a pretty demanding PC port.

Throw DX9 out in favor for DX11, utilize multi-threaded rendering while at it and make use of quad core and above CPU's and the game could probably run incredibly well though but I doubt a remaster is planned, no idea if the underlying engine code is similarly rough to Red Dead Redemption which I believe was cited as the reason it never had a updated re-release on the XBox One. (Other than Microsoft doing a software compatibility update for 4k support for the newest model of this console recently.)

Haven't really gotten very far into GTA V though it looks to be a bit of a mix having some realistic elements but also allowing players more opportunities to have fun and explore while still being very meticulous with details and crafting a interesting game world though focus then shifted more towards online even scrapping the planned DLC's for the story mode which was apparently about exploring the mountain and it's hidden secrets.
(But it got cut and some of the assets added into the online mode instead.)

EDIT: Next up should be the follow up to Red Dead Redemption, will be interesting to see if Take2 will similarly go all out for the online experience here but well considering the games active support was extended twice due to profitability well that's probably set already.
(And PC port is 50/50 as usual, it'll either happen but later or it won't though I don't think Red Dead has ever hit PC but it depends on profit margins and sales expectations I would think.)

V has worse physics, worse characters, worse story, worse world.. only better graphics (obviously).
Gta IV story is more serious, more focused and not considering 3 retarded characters of which only one is maybe barely interesting. It is still fun to drive around in IV while V is stiff.

I see many people shitting on gta iv but it was a revolution when it came out and EVERYONE loved it bac then and was impressed. Then it came out on pc and stiff pc master race retards didn't liked it because of terrible, terrible pc port.
It was first "next gen" gta and it delivered. At least on consoles. pc version came way alter and was broken to shit while it looked and played better on 360 over year earlier.
It's easy to overlook all of this now but it was received as good as Bioshock or now God of War.

Reading the Steam forums for it are kind of funny as now that its gone everyone is complaining that they cannot buy it anymore instead of buying it sometime in the last 10 years.

It would be interesting if they remove the Securom and GFWL services and change it to the Rockstar Launcher but the performance would probably still suck so maybe they just want people to forget about the terrible PC port of the game.

I pity the people that have to go into that shit code to remove the G4WL integration. Should be a lesson to anyone pushing their own garbage serve (e.g. battlenet, beth.net, social club, etc.). They will all fail eventually, and this is what will happen with all modern games.

They would need to completely report it and add the music back... The game is not the same without those tracks.
And the pc port is still terrible.
The camera zooms in during cutscenes above 58fps.
The camera spins like crazy at high framerates during braking
Shadows are rendered incorrectly compared to original rendering method
Colors are incorrect and bland compared to console versions
Depth of field scales with resolution and it's gone at 1080p and non existent at 4k and the game is designed with dof to hide geometry limitations
performance still sucks but You dont want high framerates anyway since it breaks too many things
Geometry fails to load in time
lights flicker in certains scenarios
Motion blur is rendered incorrectly at higher framerates
Wheels do not receive self shadowing like on console versions so they look disconnected or "floating"

There are so many small issues apparent to people who played the game on consoles at launch like me, that I would much rather prefer to still play 360 version .... than to deal with the issues. or lock the pc version to 30fps to avoid some issues, mod back the music, change colors with reshade and it is somewhat playable.
It's no surprise the game is hated on pc. if I never played 360 version before, I would've hated the pc version and not finished that game myself. Now remember - we are talking about 2008 xbox 360/ps3 game.
