Transmission

on OSX 10.10 and utorrent on Win 8.1

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

utorrent, seriously, who gives a fuck what program I use Laughing I certainly don't. Does it download movie/songs/games I find? Yes. Good enough for me Very Happy

Seriously, some people should stop being so butthurt over others choice of software and hardware Laughing

I don't understand this talk about utorrent bloat.

I'm using version 3.3 build 29625, disabled the ads/promos in the advanced settings. The executable filesize is 784kb and Process Hacker reports that it's using 14.3 mb private memory when idling.

I mean, sure there are other very good clients I'm sure, feel free to use them but why spread bullshit about utorrent?

EDIT: Why isn't this on Applications like all the other "which torrent client" threads?

the actual true benchmarks ever done show transmission working with less resources than utorrent, but hell yeah, it's just 16 year oldish bull shit

that's why it works when companies buy software with once a good reputation. you can completely fuck up and still have positive credits for years. same reason why facebook preferred buying whatsapp instead of pushing their own solution.

i am not here to convince you all, but the kind of replies of the Belgian Swedish god explain pretty well why utorrent is still the number 1 client worldwide

how can you discuss if someone even doesn't understand that ads, rss feeds, search feature, etc.. are non-added value bloat? hell, we even do not take into account all other crap which can be active under the hood. the binary multiplied by 5 size wise! i expect the installed version even bigger in size.

just the knowledge that utorrent is maintained by a US company should already be a huge red flag for average intelligent people, taking into account all the NSL crap which was discovered with the Snowden leaks

Why are talking about companies buying stuff and bullshit like that? We care about the program.

I see the 1-file installation, the tiny executable, the small memory footprint and I ask: where is the bloat? I'm not comparing it to transmission, which I have never used and never will, after seeing the screenshots.

If you really think that the disabled ads, an empty RSS feed and a search bar that goes unused adds bloat to the program, then you have no idea about programming.

Ditto

When uTorrent was bought by some company it was riddled with adware and other weird stuff in the code and config that took a lot of effort to get rid of (the stuff that was possible to remove). At some point I started looking around after something else and qBittorrent is what uTorrent ought to be

Tixati, but to set it up properly, you need brains, so I dunno if it's of any use to anyone in here?

Very rarely use torrents now, as I prefer fast and reliable links, made easier by using a debrid service, which also serves streaming funnily enough Wink

I use qBittorent since the uTorrent debacle, but I barely ever fire it up.. my premium links generator has a Torrents section which downloads torrents for you and hosts it on their super fast servers. Very handy Very Happy
