A small gift I think could be idea. Chocolates and roses have been done. I think you a card with a guardian angel inside. Say some crap about how you like to think she has a guardian angel watching over her. (my idea could be totally lame)
Large gifts make some people think you are trying to buy them, or it could spoil them right right from the beginning They would just keep expecting more and more. You be caught in a vicious cycle, always trying to top the last gift.
