Well apparently Blackra1n jailbreaks 3.1.2 as well but Im still a bit concerned about updating to it. Waiting for someone to reply who might know lol.

Well, given what was said above about Installous, that's what I've been trying. Although it's super buggy for me... (if you try it, try to search for Uno? lol)
Other than that I guess there's a hackulous app to add .ipa's from Windows to your phone, although I haven't researched that yet... However I have downloaded a couple files from http://appulo.us/, but I don't know what to do with them yet... 
Or, if I sound totally stupid, just ignore me, because I have no idea what I'm doing.
However, the couple games that DID WORK directly via Installous, ran just fine. Tried HYBIRD and Canabalt so far. |

I'm confused by this bit:
Warning 3g and 3gs unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team's offerings. Also blackra1n doesn't hacktivate.
What does this mean? I'm currently running 3.0 on my phone, havne't "upgraded via iTunes" yet for fear of this baseband bullshit...!

I ended up downloading the files on my PC and then SFTP'ing the .ipa files over and installing via Installous. ;p |

download bunch of apps from appulous, from your PC not from the phone
connect your phone to itunes and sync the apps, simple!

This sucks. I have RE4 on my iPhone but I want to delete it and I cant because its not showing on the 11 pages and you cant delete via the spotlight search. When I connect to iTunes the RE4 app doesnt even show! Can anyone help please?!

Download the app "poof" from Cydia, and then turn on RE4 icon. Then delete it.
My icons sometimes dissapear too, poof is a good solution!

I got Poof, thanks. It was also included with SBSettings. Although its good, it didnt help with my problem. I managed to get an app called Appiconreorder. As well as reordering my apps just like the new feature iTunes 9 introduced but now I can do that without iTunes, it also allowed me to create extra new pages! I went from the standard 11 to 16! lol. I can now see all of my apps without using spotlight search! Freakin awesome, I have to say!

So I finally managed to get a working copy of Resident Evil 4 lol.
I had to download a cracked ipa and installed it via iTunes. For some reason though when I synced my phone to do that, iTunes REMOVED some of my apps, mainly the ones that came via Installous. That was quite annoying. Any reason why it would do that or how to prevent it?

I disagree lol. The reason I used iTunes is because Installous would not install certain apps, namely RE4 so I downloaded a cracked ipa via the pc. If I was to then transfer the ipa via ftp, would the install still fail due to me using Installous?

lol alright, that's it, I'm going to try and install RE4.
EDIT: Alright man, not sure what you're doing but... I downloaded resident_evil_4-v1.00.corepda.ipa, SFTP'd it over with FileZilla, and installed normally via Appulous and it worked fine for me.
Made it in-game and shot some dudes in the face all fine. ;p

Are you saying, if i plug my iphone into iTunes, and upgrade to the newest FW 3.1.2 (Which will unjailbreak it), and then go to the blackra1n website, it will jailbreak it? a stock 3.1.2 3g iphone?
I know it won't be unlockable, but I will be able to run hacked apps etc and use cydia?

I ran the blackrain on my ipod touch and i think it worked but how do i know if its jailbroken?
Edit 1: well i ran it again and got the blackrain pic then it shut down but wouldnt come back on so ive had to restore it in itunes

Thanks for trying that.
The reason I havent done that yet is because when I download via Installous and install via Installous, RE4 wasnt working. I automatically assumed that after FTPing it and still installing via Installous would be exactly the same result. So is it the actual download from Installous or the Installous installer that means certain games wont work? Thats what I need to figure out I think.
What do I need to the FTP thing? I thought Filezilla was a download manager like GetRight. Hmm might have a look at that.

I too would like to know this as I have a jilbroken 3.1 but not updated to 3.1.2.

Not sure man, only reason I do it via PC download is because the Appulous downloader seems flaky as hell through the iPhone interface. Maybe the RE4 download never finished? I believe it would still show up in your "Downloads" list though. My PC download lets me be sure it finished all the way.
FileZilla is just a free ftp client. You'll have to make sure you install OpenSSH through Cydia on your iPhone, then make sure phone and comp are on a network, FTP over via IP address (whatever your phone is), make sure using port 22 (not 21), default login pass is root/alpine
Rename whatevername.ipa.zip to whatevername.ipa, and browse to folder:
/private/var/mobile/Library/Downloads
Then launch Installous, tap "Downloads" and do Install, bam, easy!
EDIT: Yes, blackra1n will kick a stock 3.1.2 right in the balls (meaning it will jailbreak). My 3GS had never been jailbroken before, and I updated to 3.1.2 and was able to jailbreak.

Thanks for the FTP info sTo0z. Got it set up and working. So I guess now I dont need to use iTunes at all? Unless I need a firmware update the phone, right?

Tried updating to 3.1.2 but it wont let me keeps saying this iphone could not be updated error 3014
same when i try restoring -_- i messed up some stuff so i wanted to restore but i cant
