Don't know the english word, there are mainly two sorts of gypsy here in germany, roma and sinti. I guess those were romani gypsies in the documentary.

the way i see it, you mustnt hate anyone for their race and sexual orientation, but everything else is developed during lifetime with a given choice to stay or move away from it, that decision ranging from being extremely easy to extremely hard given the circumstances.
but nontheless, it is a decision that can be made and henceforth judged.

Around here, the term gypsy is no longer referring to an ethnic group... it has become a sort of character trait/ adjective

As sad as it makes me feel, the hungarian version of "gypsy" also became a curse word in hungarian. We are known for having a very colorful way of cursing with a lot of words that can be woven into a long chain of cussing. Gypsy (cigány) being one of those words.

More and more of them are finding their way up to Norway. A combination of "gypsi ban" and making begging illegal. A lot of them came to Norway after Denmark have started sending them out. Norway is as always a little to naive and doesn't really know what to do with the problem. Some of the politicans simply want to send them out of the country, others want to help them with some simple jobs so they can contribute a little to society. Its a problem with our laws tho, because most of them have no papers what so ever...
I saw a documentary about gypsies in Oslo because I didn't want to be biased. But I really didn't feel more sorry for them afterwards. Travel is expensive... so getting back to their families with lots of money is pretty unrealstic. One of the guys in the docmentary even bought premium brand beer in a store. Not even I do that (only when I go to Sweden) . Anyway, they followed different gypsies and it just didn't seem like they had any control over their money at all. And if they where asked a difficult question they answered with its gods way and we have to follow it

I have no qualms about speaking the truth - and they're thieving scum. Even organisations that defend the weak and poor have stopped defending them because the facts don't lie.
Only last week, two Roma gypsies came into a local supermarket and stole a bunch of expensive booze and walked out. They were caught on camera but didn't give a fuck because who would arrest them? They don't live anywhere, are constantly on the move and because of that, the police has a hard time pinning them down.
Funny story: a few months back there was a documentary of gypsies here in Belgium and the woman who was behind it, got forced out of the editing process because her goal was to show people gypsies were not bad people but the footage clearly showed they were thieving shits and the TV station didn't trust her to edit the footage properly. Plus, of course, footage that confirms such stuff would be a lot more popular than footage that shows happy dancing gypsies.
One example: A girl came home with an iPod, jewelry, expensive earphones and the father actually said "you can't keep that, we have little room as it is in the caravan - throw it away". It was so very clearly stolen but the woman who was also presenter didn't even ask the father about how she got that stuff.
There were also testimonies that got added later from areas they visited - where local people confirmed there had been burglaries on the exact days where they had passed by (with the police confirming the reports), shoplifting, people losing their wallets, etc.
Plus, when they asked the gypsies how they could afford to buy modern Mercedes cars and pay for all their food and fuel so on, they gave very evading or vague answers like "we do stuff for people" or "people give us stuff".
Seriously, a despicable people - not surprised they were on Hitler's shitlist.

Well I think there are gypsies that make it, work and get a decent pay, and they hate other gypsies too. Most here start work in the sanitary department, and then move up to construction, and some even make a pretty decent living, and move away into good neighborhoods and prosper.
There are normal gypsies and others that are in a class of thieves and doing no-good. And everyone hates the latter.

I saw and worked with one, his father was actually banned from their community for daring to work for gadjo's, so repressions went both way for him.
All in all I see no problem in Poland: crime rates among gypsies (or Roma's) are the same as with non-gypsies, so nothing out of the ordinary.
Hungary has a problem with them, the crime rates are estimated to be 25 times higher, but seeing how they live there (and in Romania) I'm not really surprised. Poverty is a common criminogenic factor.

Well here in a part of the country they are a bit more integrated, while in another part they aren't. So they don't send their kids to school, they steal, don't pay tax and usually live on land that's not their own. Since the state usually doesn't react when it comes to them people feel they have too many privileges because they are a minority.
Its all good being "above" the hate until they are your neighbors...
