Dear all,

Version 0.16 has become stable, and this means that there is one last step for us to reach the 0.17 which will probably become 1.0 version. Then Factorio will finally step out of the Early Access zone. This will take some months but the roadmap is clear for us.

We feel that now is a good time to adjust the price of the game. The price of the game has been growing steadily together with the game becoming bigger, more stable and polished. After careful consideration, we have decided to set the new price of the game to 30 USD (or your regional equivalent). This change will become effective as of the 16th of April 2018. This is the final Factorio price update, unless something unforeseen happens, so it will also be the price for the game for 1.0 release.

As you probably know we have a strict no sale policy. The game will not go on sale on Steam or any other platform. This basically means that purchasing before the 16th of April 2018 is the only way to buy the game cheaper than the increased release price.

A game well worth buying. I have stopped to play, for now, waiting for the final release, to get the most out of it (kind of like with Subnautica, even tho there isn't a plot or anything).

Another example of a early access done right.

ello,
we feel that the Factorio development is taking way too long. The approach "It is done when it is done" was serving us well to deliver a high quality product, but if we continued this way, we would be doing it basically forever. A lot of us don't have any problem working on Factorio for some more time, but the main problem is, that we would like to introduce new features and content instead of just polishing parts that are already present in the game. We also considered, that the game is quite polished now, and if we just pushed the button to release 1.0, it wouldn't be a catastrophe. From our perspective, a lot of things wouldn't be finished, but from the perspective of a new player, the things we are working on now are mainly nitpicks.

With this in mind, we decided to just specify a 1.0 release date publicly, so we have to stick with it. We will just focus on the most important aspects as we approach the date, and we just do whatever we have time to do. Once the 1.0 happens, we can have some rest and after that, we can finally focus on the content and features again.

The date is 25th September 2020.

Version 1.0 does not mean that development on the game will end, or that Factorio is 100% finished. When we have a better idea of what we will be working on after the 1.0 release, we will let you know.

The 1.0 plan (Klonan)

In FFF-321 we announced a release date for version 1.0. Given recent events we have decided to make an amendment to the date of 1.0.The new date we are aiming for is Friday August 14th 2020, which is 5 weeks earlier than the original date.

The main reason to change the release date is the release of Cyberpunk 2077.In January this year, CD Projekt Red announced a delay to the release of Cyberpunk 2077, to September 17th, 1 week before our Factorio 1.0 launch. We think any release close to such a monumental game is going to feel some negative effects, such as everybody playing and covering Cyberpunk and taking attention away from other games.

So we thought it was best to try release either before Cyberpunk or quite a while after it.Given the two choices, we opted to bring the release date forward. There are several reasons why we are choosing to release earlier:

Descoped goal

When we announced the date (FFF-321), we had plans for many things to be in the final release. The main topics were the new campaign, fluid algorithm improvements, and the full GUI rewrite.Due to independent reasons, we have cancelled the new campaign (FFF-331), postponed the fluid improvements, and cut a lot of the aspects of the GUI rewrite (FFF-348).

Staying on schedule

Apart from descoping some features, the other work we've been doing has been progressing at a good pace. The 0.18 experimental release structure (FFF-314) is really helping to keep things on track. The original estimate was made with some concession for delays, that "things always take longer than expected".Well for the last 6 months, most things haven't been taking longer than expected, and we've been finishing topics quite effectively.

The sooner the better

The general feeling in the office is that the game is pretty much done, and that we want to get it released as soon as possible. The sooner we get some closure on version 1.0, the sooner we can start thinking about fun and exciting new things.

So due to the co-incidence of cancelling several major features, we can afford to bring the release date forward. To be clear, we didn't cancel or postpone any features due to the Cyberpunk release date.

This new release date gives us 10 weeks, and from this point until Friday August 14th, the main focus for the team is on finalising the game, updating the trailer, and preparing marketing materials.

As happy as I am to finally see this reach the finish line, I'm kinda sad there are no more major feature updates planned. Crying or Very sad

On the other hand, it's undeniably the most feature-rich factory building game out there. Hell, doesn't even have to be "factory" building, just plain best building game.

Time for another celebratory playthrough. This time I will not be tempted by the siren song of bots! Who am I kidding, I'll convert the entire place to bot-only half way through, like always. Razz

98% percent positive reviews on Steam. Should be enough to say how good it is. Smile

Let's just say that it looks daunting if you look at the screenshots, but once you start playing everything will fall into place, and it's hands down the most well put together thinky-puzzley-base building game out there. You start from zero and will end up with a sprawling manufacturing complex that is easy to manage because every element is easily recognisable at a glance.

The first time I built a functioning nuclear reactor complex was hands down one of the most satisfying moments in my gaming career. Razz

EDIT: obligatory Sseth.

It just proves, again, that ni matter how good a game is, you'll always find at least one person who won't like it Smile

But then I think it's more of a "it's not my genre" type of not liking...

It's like someone who hates tomatoes to judge a tomatoes sauce Smile

The sauce can be perfect, but if you don't like tomatoes...

Didn't play it but it seems like a very gamey game (meaning its all down to mechanics, not atmosphere or plot)? It seems stripped off from anything that would make me care about the world/character (big problem for me, just 1 character?)

I'd play if it had more of a Rimworld approach.
