You can ask for the release date for the final version
1 and 2 are still amazing.

I am glad this patch is now out for everyone as this game does have clueless people who buy it that go on big tirades every time a new patch is released to the Supporter Branch first. If those Supporters want to pay twice the price to play a patch first, more power to them as it makes for a better patch when the rest of us gets it but most of the people on the Steam forums act like Void just killed thier dog each time the Supporter version of the patch comes out like it is something brand new for the patches for this game.

The release will be at the game awards or announced then for sure. The developers have dropped some hints in one of their latest newsletters.

I really hope they manage to deliver single-player wise, the poor bear's been waiting about 18 years for something like this to come along. Ever since the game was announced, I've replayed through the heavily modded Raven Shield, SWAT 4 (Elite Force) twice and dusted off SWAT 3 (Last Resort) as well, my body is beyond ready

The devs were probably smart to stop doing those monthly patches and just focus on getting to the 1.0 release state that they said should come out before the end of the year. From what they showed in the teasers it does seem like it will be a lot more fleshed out so I am looking forward to seeing how the storyline plays out.

Same. I played it for hours ~1 year ago then put it down waiting for 1.0. It's the first game in a long time that actually delivers and improves on the tactical / realism aspect. And for SINGLE PLAYER. Cannot wait.

How does it stand up against e.g SWAT 3?
Bought it anyways since there really isn't anything other current.

I like it better than SWAT2/3/4. All the SWATs.
But some people in the reviews seem not to. I don't know why, it wipes the floor with all of them ImmOoooooOooOoo

Good to hear. 1.0 seems to be quite a substantial update so those reviews might change i guess.
like some people say in the comments, would be cool to be able to play as one of the suspects, because the AI for the SWAT team certainly seems quite good. Maybe we'll get that as a mod or update/DLC or something..

So, I'd sum up the problems up until now (pre 1.0) into the following categories -
Spoiler: |
Lack of Realism with regards to:
1. No pre-mission planning. Had to learn the maps blind, and a lot of the maps were huge in terms of surface area / number of rooms.
2. No trailers. The guys that follow the SWAT team and secure a room after it's cleared so suspects can't loop back. This would lead to suspects as well as hostages going into where you already cleared and was a massive pain in the ass. Hopefully they implemented these well.
3. Having to secure all evidence manually. It was super easy to miss something dropped - and let's be honest - that's not the job of the main element anyway - they're there to secure the area with regards to hostiles, not play bean counter with every single thing that could be classified as evidence.
Those three things seem to have all been addressed in some shape or form, though it remains to be seen how well its been done.
Game specific issues:
1. AI officers as well as suspects ranged from super human reaction times and accuracy to completely inept. None of this made sense.
2. No way to issue an "all clear" once all suspects were neutralized so any civilians in hiding came out.
3. If you played co-op with a friend, the game would not fill out the remainder of the spots with AI teammates. So if you've only got one friend, it's now 2 vs. 30 - good luck!
Unknown if any of these have been addressed. #3 probably hasn't changed.
|
Overall, it was still an awesome game pre-release. Sunk about 70 hours into it. Figure it'll only get better. The tension is definitely there. I'd say it's better than SWAT 3/4, honestly. Definitely more replayability.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

I am looking forward to seeing all the updates with the 1.0 release tomorrow.
I am a little disappointed though that they said in the new Swat AI video that they do not plan to add it to the co-op part of the game. Seems an odd choice as you would think having 2 real players would not change what the other Swat AIs would be doing versus just the 1 real player so hopefully this might get added down the line or some creative mod maker will add that ability.

Video I saw recently stated that the developers have confirmed that the new AI system should work seamlessly on custom maps AND that they are entertaining the idea of being able to have AI teammates in addition to your co-op friends to fill out any missing spots (but that's a hard MAYBE at this point).
