60€ for a 5770? Is it just me or does that sound really steep for such an aged card? And bottom of the range aswell, it propably didn't cost 60€ even when it was new?

(Mind you I haven't checked..)

On a more related note: Do your research.
Do you play new games or games that support it AND you play in fullscreen mode, not borderless? If yes, then buy a second card by all means in my opinion, cheap upgrade and I would dare to say that it works for every new game out there out of the box.
And every major game really.

Doesn't it need driver support? I constantly read in driver changelogs about adding support etc.

P.S.: Are you raging hard in WoT or botting? Cause I saw you got some infractions Laughing Laughing

Just some chat bans, and maybe some teamkills Crying or Very sad
Damned tomatos Sad

Also yes, it does need driver suppot but usually those drivers are out by the time the games are released today so it really isn't an issue.

Just mentioned it in the OR rift thread... i bought a second 7970 and its a waste of money. Barely any games that support sli/cf, mostly triple a shooters. Most games just lag like hell with cf enabled.

it's your choice but you are making a mistake (imo). SLI/CF is mostly for people who can afford multiple high end GPUs and want even more performance in games that support this tech. stige who claimed that no problems and all games support this etc is full of shit/lying. it will be a nightmare to have low end GPUs in CF instead of one more up to date gpu. you think you are investing 60€ by buying another gpu for CF? i think you are wasting 60€ instead of saving for a better single gpu upgrade.

If you gonna throw money out the window, buy a 250x or 260x then? Or save the money for a better one like the 280x.

That, and the heavy migraines that come with any twin GPU setup. Drivers on both sides are utter shit that way, been there, done it. Wink

Unless you care about epeni benchmark figures, avoid like the plague, as you ain't gonna notice shit in any game that is around today.

Sell the card, or bin it, and get a decent one card setup, whatever your flavour, ASAP.

**Edit*

Do not forget. Introducing a second GPU into ones system will cause more heat and instability, if one does not have adequate cooling. Also, if one is overclocking, your looking for trouble with that setup.

Not to mention, that you will require a PSU that is specified to run SLI/Crossfire on normal settings, let alone overclocking ones Wink

In this case a new GPU is the answer.
But all the multi gpu bashing is nonsense.
An SLI upgrade in games can be night and day. I will certainly be going SLI with my 780 before moving to a single card solution again.
SLI has worked perfectly for me for years. The headache issues were left behind years ago.

^ exactly what I was trying to say aswell.
It is outdated thinking that CF/SLI have issues these days, especially on new games and even if they happen to have they are usually patched up rather nice and quick these days.

Adding a second GTX570 to my system near doubled performance across the board, with so few drawbacks that they aren't even an issue. The *worst* is waiting for working SLi profiles, though even that can be remedied most of the time with custom profiles based off profiles for same-engine titles. Sadly not every title supports SLi, such as vaunted nextgenomgbenchmarkbestgaemevarlololtoplel like Star Shitizen, but those are few and far between these days. While I'd certainly like a monstrously powerful single card, I laugh at those naysayers talking about how crap SLi/Crossfire is. 2005 called; it wants its misconceptions back Laughing

My only issue with my setup is the lack of VRAM on my cards, that really does hamper games Sad

However! I am inclined to agree with the majority sentiment; you're probably best served saving just a bit longer and getting a stronger single card. Adding a second 5770 will dramatically improve your performance but you're still sorely limited by the overall weakness of the 5770. You also have to deal with (often significantly) increased heat and power draw .. and the old AMD cards weren't exactly cool with low draw.

Haha, now THAT's a beefy upgrade Smile A single 6950 is so much more powerful than a pair of 5770s Smile 1GB VRAM will still hold you back a lot though 1080 gaming should be okay for the most part --- how about this one?

http://santoandre-setubal.olx.pt/2x-sapphire-hd-6950-2gb-dirt-3-edition-iid-460552017

Cheaper at €90 and has 2GB VRAM.

If you could flash and unlock 100% without any risks, I'd say it was worth it.. but I have no experience with the 6950>6970 so you'd have to ask someone else, I'm afraid. As for the mail thing, I guess that makes sense, it's a risk no matter what you do Sad I think you'd be better with the 2GB model though, really, but either way the upgrade will be immense whether you get the 1GB or 2GB.

I think if it is some newer 6950 it can't be flashed anymore.

The "first" 6950s could all be flashed but it was later fixed if I remember correctly so the later ones couldn't be flashed anymore.

But this is all from the top of my head so take it with a grain of salt.

You can try unlock that Windforce, it will work or not (that model can be unlocked tho). I would just OC it to over 6970 clocks, the performance gain from unlock is so minimal.

I'd still get the 2gb tho, 1gb on a relatively old card simply does not cut it, imo, not for full HD.

As someone with a 1.28GB 570, I agree absolutely -- there's more than enough "grunt" with a pair of them, but so little VRAM is really showing its age and restriction Sad
