Explore the worlds of Californium, a first person exploration game where you are a writer trapped into shifting realities. Will you find what’s behind the simulacra ?

Berkeley, 1967. You are Elvin Green, a writer whose career is not better than his sentimental life. Besides, the day starts badly : your wife Thea left you a break up letter. As for Eddy, your editor, he summons you : "you are a writer who does not write" - you should find yourself another editor. Your world is falling apart. Too much acid and cheap booze ? Too many sleepless nights stuck to your typewriter, powerless to tackle your first novel ? Your poor mental health is collapsing. Luckily this nightmarish world is unstable, you can extract yourself from it and thus access another reality! You have nothing to lose!

That looks somewhat interesting, playing a first person adventure of someone who is on drugs. Very Happy

Just saw the vids on Steam... great sales pitch with that stuttering. Unity my guess? Since it felt like it was running on 12 fps

Out on Steam, part walking simulator and part hidden object game from what I tested so far, walk around and explore and these TV's will display a "O" symbol and then a number, find the same number of hidden "O" symbols in the vicinity and activate them to trigger a sort of merging of realities and then when you've done this for each of the TV's (Whom also talk to you.) you're transported to the next chapter.

There's some NPC's around as well in the form of 2D cartoon sprites whom tell you a little story if you walk up to them and fill in a bit about the world of Californium as you travel through these different realities.

Pretty simple game but might be fun for a playthrough if you like these types of games.
(Story is a bit crazy as well or what little of if I've understood at least.)

EDIT: Screenshots.
 Spoiler:

EDIT: What was that other quirky adventure game from years ago, partway through it turned into Wolfenstein 3D if I remember it right.
(EDIT: Hopkins FBI, strange game that but the character sprites here reminded me of that game although with less nudity, heh still have that disc somewhere.)

Hopkins FBI is a very old adventure game from back in 1998, it got pretty slammed as I remember it as the story is mostly nonsense and the main thing is that the artwork is a bit like a cartoon and there's a lot of gore and nudity. Razz

Plus one segment plays like a 2D shoot em up where you have to traverse a path to a hut that is populated by a dozen or so murderers and a second part later on plays like Wolfenstein 3D though with only one enemy type and one gun, plus you die in one hit I believe.
(Both of these are very difficult and the clumsy controls don't help at all.)

Rest of the game is a classical point & click adventure game.

Was all sorts of strange quirky games back then, Normality, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, Phantasmagoria, plus of course classics from giants of that era like LucasArts and Sierra with Monkey Island, The Dig, Kings Quest, Larry etc. Razz
(And a gradual movement to 3D first pre-rendered and then in actual 3D and in-between these five plus CD-Rom live-action games.)

Between GOG and Steam a pretty large selection of these games remains available though with varying issues such as having to be run through DOSBox since it's pretty uncommon with source code availability plus of course having a team that can work with said code and update the game to run natively on modern systems.

Anyways these day's there's walking simulators with either adventure or survival themes or semi-adventure games that are primarily dialogue driven with varying degrees of interactivity and branching though some classical titles are also released such as those from Daedalic or Wadjey Eye publishing. Very Happy
(And a huge growth of visual novels though it should be said writing quality can vary greatly on some of these and a number of them almost exclusively relies on so-called "fan service" to sell.)

As for this game it's a bit quirky and pretty simple but it's not too bad though in comparison a lot of these Unity games are almost just quick cash grabs with little to no work involved although there are exceptions of course.
(When they don't get stuck in years of early-access development hell at least. Razz )
