Motorsport by its very nature is dangerous - it says so on the back of the ticket. DiRT 4 is all about embracing that danger. It’s about the thrill, exhilaration and adrenaline that is absolutely vital to off-road racing. And more than that, it’s about loving that feeling. It’s about pushing flat out next to a sheer cliff drop. Going for the gap that’s slightly too small. Seeing how much air you can get in a truck. They call it ‘being fearless’.
DiRT 4 also features a game-changing system called Your Stage; an innovative rally route creation tool that allows you to produce an almost-infinite number of unique stages at the press of a button. You choose your location and set the route parameters, then Your Stage does the hard work to create a unique rally stage that you can race, share with your friends and then challenge them to beat your time. Your Stage allows experienced rally players to create longer, more technical routes, whilst newcomers can create simpler shorter routes as they hone their skills.
With DiRT 4, Codemasters have sought to combine the levels of thrill and realism from last year’s DiRT Rally with the fearless excitement, accessibility and adrenaline-fuelled races previously seen in its critically acclaimed prequels DiRT 2 and DiRT 3.
Featuring classic rally racing that continues to build on the foundations set by the Colin McRae Rally games, the bruising contests from the official FIA World Rallycross Championship, the crazy battles of racing trucks and buggies, and the outrageous fun of open events in Joyride, players will face challenges from locations that span three continents.

if the guys which made dirt rally are in charge for this one yes, if not -> fuck off gaymasters!
Haha yeah, I hope the physics won't be dumbed down (again), it would be a damn shame. The target audience here though is a broader one if compared to Dirt Rally's, so it's probably the case. It could still be alright as long as they don't go full retard with the Ken Mountain Dew Gymdoritocanas, X-games and that sort of stuff.
The ideal however would be to build the game upon Dirt's Rally physics, and then have proper scalable options and aids to please both the arcade men and dust masters, but I fear that compromises will have to be made this time. We shall see I guess.
I was reading this interview, maybe maybe there's hope:
Quote:
• Has DiRT Rally changed people’s perceptions about the series? What tone between full-on sim and arcade racer are you hoping to strike with DiRT 4?
I think it has. We surprised a lot of people with DiRT Rally. There was an assumption that Codemasters couldn’t make a rally game that was that focused, but the team did an incredible job. We proved that we could make a title that really delivered an off-road racing experience that was right up there with the best there has ever been. With DiRT Rally, we were able to be unashamedly sim. Many of the design decisions we made revolved around representing the sport as closely as possible, and that meant those without first-hand experience of rallying felt this wasn’t a game for them.
With DiRT 4 we are taking everything we learned with DiRT Rally and using that as our foundation. That means we are taking our simulation engine, improving it and building everything else on top of that. We are then taking everything we loved about all the other games in the franchise and bringing it all together into a much more coherent package.
DiRT 4 will resonate with all players regardless of whether they consider themselves an arcade or sim racer. The beauty is that you can choose exactly what type of experience you want to have, and then play the game on your terms. If you want something fun that doesn’t require in-depth knowledge of automotive engineering and vehicle dynamics, then you can just dive into the game and have a great time. If you loved the challenge of DiRT Rally, then you can switch to the Sim Handling mode and have an experience that is even closer to the real deal than we managed to achieve with DiRT Rally.
The dust looks so unrealistic it hurts. I've seen the same shit on Widlands in the other thread, it looks like it was coming out of the back window.
Smoke and dust should be one of the top priorities in a game that aims for a partially realistic Rally simulation. Should be done with 3d particles already.
That POV looks horrendous! And the graphics look bright, vibrant and totally unrealistic.
So, Derp 4 confirmed?
It is a strange beast indeed, because they keep saying "the Simulation mode will be even more simulative than Dirt Rally!1", but then at the same time the overall structure is similar to Dirt 2, and the track themselves are said to be slightly more forgiving with more docile bumps/edges.
It'll probably be ok, and surely much better than the completely arcadey Gymkhana 3, but trying to please both sides of the fence undoubtedly will lead to streamlining compromises. Give us Dirt Rally 2 goddammit!
God no.. can you imagine the millions of console players who would cry out in unison "NOOO IT'S TOO HARD!!!"
Hahah , it really is like that, their forums have dozens of threads like this or this
I simply find it nonsensical because not only the game can be perfectly played with a gamepad(*raises hand*), but the difficulty and AI can be significantly tuned/adjusted. It never has the awesome one-drift-to-rule-em-all button though
