read the article before you post. Valve stated that this Addon will be ?only? available via Steam.

i read the article 3 days ago... and nowhere they stated that.
if you read properly you would discover that the bonus level "the lost coast" will be only steam-download available and Half-Life2: Aftermath is a regular expansion and will be retailed as always.
Valve has a contract with vivendi universal games for half life 2 and its expansions pack, they cannot sell half life 2 or an expansion pack via steam without selling it in stores with the VUG mark... they cannot do whatever they want as long as they have a contract to follow, and the contract says that vivendi has the right to sell expansion packs in stores.
The lost coast will be free of charge so they can distribuite it via steam without vivendi's approval

Actually, if you check http://img159.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img159&image=37pw.jpg&gal=img159/3697/24ha.jpg and also the last page that I can't be bothered to link to, it mentions that it will only be available by Steam and that it will not be in the shops - on two different pages. This is quite clearly not the lost coast expansion either. As for whether this is what will really happen or not, well, I guess we'll find out in a few months.

I really hope this get released on steam only and start a revolution to push developer to stop beeing manipulated by fuckign retaillers who take 80% of profit, put their name everywhere and do nothing else than marketing shitness

Well in my eyes opposing force is the most fun hl game to date. bit sad that gearbox will have nothing to do with this 1 either. Still i trust the boys at valve to come trough and by then i'll have a super duper new pc so i can test all the new features out and play it the way it's supposed to be

They were all good. I can't wait to see what they creat for this addon. I'm even playing through HL2 again at intervals.

damn
i got the game original !
but i dont know my passwort
and i dont know the security question !!!
i cant install the game !!
but i got a cracked version 2 but only copying a folder from dvd on hd and play !
so i cant install hl2 and cant play the add on !!!
bullshit i hope it will be a stand alone
or it worked like hl 1 source just copying the folder in hl 2 add something to shortcut and play!!!
btw: which is the best downloadable version that u can install ???

Piss me off steam. Where are the good ol' days where you could simply buy a game, install, and play? Now we must buy the game, install, start up some other program, verify, wait for update, play. I really would not have any problems with HL2 or this expansion if they just would let people NOT use steam if they did'nt want to. I can also tell you right now that if I have to give them my credit card info to buy this expansion, there is no way im buying it. They allready stole approximately $114.95 from me.

I also realize that many games now such as the doom3 expansion, and SWAT 4 have a call home procedure in their main executable, but that doesnt bother me as much because it is'nt hindering me in any way - It is'nt creating another platform I have to use.

yes they making the games full of trash !!
and even the fans who buy everygame dont like stuff like this !!
because it makes u pissed if u have 2 restart ur pc again and gain after installing (starforce)
typing in 3 cd keys ( doom 3 add on )
installing steam and register
having probs with other copy protections beacause of the cd dvd roms !
and more ..........
