Dungeon of the Endless is a Rogue-Like Dungeon-Defense game, in which the player and their team of heroes must protect the generator of their crashed ship while exploring an ever-expanding dungeon, all while facing waves of monsters and special events as they try to find their way out... so what could go wrong... open the door!
BACKGROUND STORY
A few hundred condemned criminals were being shipped to the Auriga system on board the prison hulk “Success”. While this was presented as a chance to earn back their place in society by working hard for the common good, they understood that in fact they would be slave labour, sent to colonize an unexplored planet. All they knew about Auriga Prime was what the probes told them: it had water, temperate zones, plant life, and plenty of metals in the crust.
In fact, the planet Auriga once hosted a major settlement of the galaxy-travelling ancestors known as the Endless. In addition, the planet was still orbited by a functioning (and well cloaked) defensive system, which sprang eagerly to life upon the arrival of the Success. Within a few minutes, the ship was nothing but a few large chunks of metal falling toward the planet.
Every set of holding cells also functioned as an escape pod, so the ship let itself disintegrate and the surviving prisoners fell bruised but (temporarily) alive and (momentarily) safe to the planet below. Safe, that is, until they realized that they had crashed through some sort of facility of the Endless, down to a sub-basement so deep and ancient it might as well be called a dungeon…

why are there two topics for this, with different names. wtf wtf..
There isn't. One topic is Endless Space, a 4x strategy game from the same developers. The trailer for the new Dungeon of the Endless was (accidentally, I presume) posted in the Endless Space thread
Amplitude are loving the attention on Facebook, you can almost picture them rubbing their hands with maniacal glee over the world guessing what this teaser is about
Albion was fantastic, I completely agree I don't know why this sort of game hasn't been attempted since then... top-down adventure/jRPG style exploration and overworld map and a first-person switch to dungeon crawling mode!
sar·casm | \ ˈsär-ˌka-zəm \
1: a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain
2a: a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual
b: the use or language of sarcasm
It's a mix:
of rougelike - you have randomly generated rooms, permadeath heroes, random loot
of tower defense and dungeon keeper - you gave to protect your dust crystal, you can build defense towers, buff towers and towers generating resources
You power up the crystal and gain resources by opening new rooms but each new room I think generate higher chances for mobs to attack your crystal. You can send your heroes which are randomly generated at new game, to harvest resources from towers, explore the dungeon or protect the dust crystal.
Your heroes are quite fargile. And you don't have much control over them, you just point them to go to a room and they will auto task there - fight mobs or harvest or just idle.
So far no skills for the heroes and no tech tree - it's a wip.
Has anyone gotten a black screen on startup? Just a huge 1080 window and nothing else?
Quote:
Unresponsive black screen [FIXED IN 0.1.1]
When starting the game:
- the screen remains black
- no sound is played
- windows alerts you the program is non responsive
This is due to a video encoding problem we will fix in a future update.
You can avoid this issue by using the -novideo option in your game launch options by following these steps:
- right click on Dungeon of the Endless in your game library
- select "properties"
- select the "general" tab
- click the "set launch options" button
- type "-novideo" (without the quotes) in the text field
- click the "OK" button
- click the "close" button
The game should skip the logo video and go right to the main menu, allowing you to enjoy the game
Nice one, thank you WB! As luck would have it I'm grabbing 0.1.1 right now anyhow - but thanks again!
~edit~
This looks like it could be both excellent *and* incredibly infuriating Ridiculously small text though, I'm sat less than 3ft (just shy of a metre) from my monitor and even I have to lean in and squint to see it - and that's with "best ratio" or "best screen resolution" options .. if I set to "best pixel art" it's tiny enough to be for ants and that would make Zoolander rage
In case you missed the our stream yesterday, we would like to announce that Dungeon of the Endless will be complete and leave Early Access on October 27th!

The Jungle levels: The experience is now complete as players will be able to go up to the twelfth and final floor before reaching the surface.
A Journal and an Album: Track your scores with the Journal and follow your game progress in the Album, displaying pictures and hints on the secrets around Auriga and its new visitors.
Cooperative Multiplayer: For gamers who like to play with others, the two to four player cooperative enables players to strategise best routes, work together to share resources, and team up to kick all sorts of alien ass.
