I seem to remeber it being premiered at a MAC convention back in 2000. A very early test version was used to showcase the Geforce 3 graphics card. So that's at least 4 years. We've all seen lots of dates for the release from many different sources but they're all speculation and the official line from ID is still "when it's done." John Carmack did mention a few weeks ago that he was hoping to have it out soon though so it shouldn't be long now...

will get this game.. but not really excited about it or anything.. i never been a doom fan really..

ID is the reason 50% or so of all gamers game, whether they know it or not. They invented the FPS first off, as well, they created the quake II engine that half life is based upon. I understand your lack of interest though, it is a tad hoaky. I CANNOT WAIT THO!

And Half Life was based on the Quake II engine, not the quake engine.

Id be happy with everything for you except the RAM. I dont know if the 512 will be enough here. My laptop has a gig with a 9600 Pro in it and wasnt able to run far cry maxed.

Top programmers are working on the game and John himself. I trust them to optimize and do a great engine that will work on older cards and on good settings.
Far Cry has an excellent engine with high opimization, I wish more games would come out with that engine.
