Spartan is still going to use Microsoft's Chakra JavaScript engine and Microsoft's Trident rendering engine (not WebKit), sources say. As Neowin's Brad Sams reported back in September, the coming browser will look and feel more like Chrome and Firefox and will support extensions. Sams also reported on December 29 that Microsoft has two different versions of Trident in the works, which also seemingly supports the claim that the company has two different Trident-based browsers.
However, if my sources are right, Spartan is not IE 12. Instead, Spartan is a new, light-weight browser Microsoft is building.
Windows 10 (at least the desktop version) will ship with both Spartan and IE 11, my sources say. IE 11 will be there for backward-compatibility's sake. Spartan will be available for both desktop and mobile (phone/tablet) versions of Windows 10, sources say.

Doesn't like every browser have it's own Javascript (Not to be confused with Java itself.) engine?
(Or well the "engines" of said browsers like Chromium and whatever they are named.)
As for this, will be interesting to see what they have planned, hopefully it's not just a Microsoft LIVE app but we'll see.
(Will be nice with some official extension support finally, though I'd mostly just be interested in some form of script blocker or just a advertisement blocker.)
Until now, all versions of Trident were put into one DLL, making it both bloated, hard to develop and slower for the user. Now they are splitting it, so websites that do not require compatibility mode will go through the new engine DLL, and if needed, only then will the old DLL be loaded.
Starting in the top left, we see the squared tabs that sit above the URL/Search bar. Each tab has an X icon that makes it easy to close the tab; standard stuff for nearly any browser. Below that, there are the standard forward and back buttons as well as refresh.
On the right side of the browser is where things get a little bit more interesting as we have a favorite star at the end of the URL bar and next to that is a 'reading mode' for webpages. If you click that button, it strips out the text of an article and makes it easier to read the content on a page.
Next to the reading mode is a folder icon and a share icon like we have in Windows 8 that makes it easy to share content to all of your favorite social networks or by email. And a bit further to the right of that are three dots that open up the settings for the browser.
Spartan runs in a borderless window that allows your content to stretch from edge to edge. This means that there is nothing at the bottom of the window to see and all of the new UI elements are at the top of the browser.
In use, the browser does feel snappy and without any detailed testing, it's hard to say if it's the fastest browser available but it does feel quick. Also, Cortana does not seem to be in Spartan yet, or at least this version which goes against previous rumors that said you could launch it from the header bar of the browser.

Joe Belfiore, the Vice President of the company’s operating systems group, explained the name choice, saying it refers to being “on the edge of consuming and creating,” VentureBeat added.

Will it have addons support? Or at least native adblocking capability. I don't use anything else on my firefox besides uBlock. so if Edge browser is well optimized na dwill be able to filter ads I might switch.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
So much for trying to escape the shackles of history and the bad reputation IE has garnered, eh?
