Limit Theory

An RPG, RTS, and sandbox space exploration game all-in-one. Explore, trade, build, and fight in a beautiful, procedural universe.

Release Date: late 2013 early 2014

I really like this guy and his attitude towards the project. I will be pledging to this Kickstarter.

I think his tiers need some refinement though, and i have already contacted him, and had a friendly helpful reply almost instantly.

I suggested the BETA tier was too high, too which he said, he has already had a few people contact him about this, and he will be reviewing and altering the tiers.

Yes, I like the way he's replying in the comments section. He has clear ideas.
My main concern is the RTS part, but I've backed up the project.

I dunno if it's just me, but after reading this in the mail he sent to his backers....

Quote:
$5K Development Equipment ~ Unfortunately, I do need some new equipment. In particular, I will need to replace my laptop with one that is suitable for serious development. In addition, I would like to purchase an Oculus Rift dev kit, in the hopes of including Rift support in LT. Finally, I will also need to purchase a Mac-based machine so that I can work on porting.

... we're paying for a new PC and Mac for him to actually develop the game? Isn't that something he should already have?

Why doesn't anyone make a Homeworld kickstarter? I'd back that in a second.

Hmm, it doesn't need a remake though... maybe an all new story?

Nice of Chris Roberts showing some support:

Quote:
@Josh: I'm very impressed - great stuff - especially as you've done all this solo.

I'd try to hire you to make Star Citizen even better but something tells me you're going to get funded and you need to make this game! So I decided to back you instead Smile

You want any advice or help give me a call (my backer email is my main work email).

I'm very happy so many great looking space games are in the works.

All the best,

Chris

That's just pure class. Rather than cause potential competition some issues, he offers to help because he's passionate about the genre making a comeback.

We need more of this.

Since he is upfront about it and has it announced to his backers i dont see a problem with it, if someone wont like it they can pull out.

Not bad. Maybe he should really ramp up the awareness of his game, I think it might be quite good. Don't want to see it fade into obscurity.

We're going to see a lot of these space exploration/sp/pvp/trade/mercenary projects popping up after seeing how successful Chris Roberts crowd funding for Star Citizen was. They all want in on the action now.

Considering he's showed more of his work in 6 days than Frontier still have after 3 weeks, I doubt that'll be an issue. He also seems to be about as far along as them...on his own. Between this, Star Citizen and Elite, Elite is STILL the weakest one, which is ridiculous considering where it's coming from :/

Ship editor in action. I'm getting more and more intrigued by this. Pretty sure some awesome stuff can be built even by a 'few hours work' version of the editor.

just found this randomly. Looks quite cool if he can really accomplish what he has set to do, hopefully as fast as possible. Moreover I wonder why this hasn't been attempted by bigger devs in the past years

I was very much interested in this at first, but it's kind of waned a lot lately. There's no story or structure and this latest development shows that the game seems more like a construction kit than an actual game. It may well be thoroughly enjoyable but I'm not getting a Freelancer vibe from it at all, what made Freelancer so great was the combination of the open universe *and* the structured story and narrative.

Perhaps I'll feel differently once this has been gotten further along in development, but if this was being released in a couple of months as per original plan, then I wouldn't be interested in it at all :\

Well... maybe the storyline (if there is one) just isn't being mentioned, you know, keep it secret Laughing Possibly he's working on the engine only first, then get the story developed afterwards.

From what I can tell, it's just him and a couple of others, so maybe asking for a Freelancer story is a bit much - I think it might be quite interesting to have a toolbox ready for user-created missions/stories, as long as they're well made and suchlike...

Look on the brightside Very Happy
