|
 |
So I've recently upgraded my system after years of suffering games on medium / low graphics or just skipping them completely.
Managed to run AC Unity and Dying light all maxed out flawlessly, I was just wondering what games I should be looking forward to this year that will impress me graphics wise?
Are there any titles on the horizon that will be pushing the hardware to the limits? Or are things looking grim for the foreseeable ?
I know the new GTA is due to drop soon and that will obviously be a system hog.

They don't really seem very exciting to me, correct me if I'm wrong but they are basically old gen engines slightly touched up?
Is there anything truly next gen to look forward to?
This year, next year?

I doubt you'll see anything next-gen on PC this year. You'll have to buy a PS4 or Xbox for that.

High quality graphics -> high production values -> big budget -> big risk -> multiplatform release.

I hate gaming recently.
The high demanding games are not even worth it either graphics not gameplay wise

SteamDRM-"Call of Duty is the symbol of the true perfection in every aspect. Call of Duty games are like Mozart's/Beethoven's symphonies"

I know you guys like to live in the past, but you have to get over it: nobody in this day and age is making big-budget games with top-of-the-line graphics only for PC, it's not cost-effective.
Every game that is costly enough to push the envelope on graphics will almost surely be multiplatform. In fact, I can't really recall a game from last gen that was considered among the best graphically and was a PC exclusive. Even stuff like Crysis and TW2 eventually were ported.

There's nothing demanding about that one. It still looks like a bad mod on BF4.

Why no Arma 3, StarCitizen, Ethan Carter or Cradle if GFX = fun. Also we got the Rift to build a death machine PC for, goodluck pulling 90fps with Vsync x2 on your xbox.

Star Citizen, Kingdom Come:Deliverance, Monster Hunter Online maybe...(So Cry engine games I guess ) and a lot of badly done ports from ze consoles.
I'd already be happy if they improved on their porting skills rather than prettyfying it even more... Inefficient games bother me more than not having top of the line graphics.

Ethan Carter looks very good, (tho it's little more than a tech demo in my book, due to the lack of interaction and actual "gameplay" but that's another topic). However high graphic fidelity is not everything. There's a lack of interactivity with the environment in TVOEC that undermines its "impressiveness" a bit for me.
Didn't play Cradle but it looks similar gameplay-wise and doesn't even look that impressive from the trailers. Sure, models look quite good, but there's a complete lack of dynamic lighting & shadows, draw distance looks like shit and textures are good but nothing to write home about.
ArmA3 looks good, but honestly I wouldn't say it's among the best available. Stuff like TW2 or even the recent Dying Light (just to name the first two that came to mind) still look better in my book. Again, it's a matter of opinion to some extent (the old fidelity vs atmosphere/style argument) but I would say the best looking games right now are MOSTLY multiplatform releases. There are a few exceptions of course, but I'd say 90% of them are.

That's the biggest problem imho. Most games with high requirements nowadays are so demanding because they're optimized like shit. Time and time again it has been demonstrated that you can do more with less if you're good enough. Problem is, most modern studios are NOT good enough (or they don't have the time/resources to be).

i guess i'll be the first to say i'm glad we don't have graphics pushed too quickly.
I quite enjoy having one gpu for 3-4 years without having to play on crap settings just a few months after purchase, like it was in the mid 2k's.

PC is Next Gen in my eyes.....not a PS4 or Xbox One? If a PS4 and an Xbox One were made into PC's they would be a mid-end PC at best!! Just my opinion.....

Not even. Similar, cheaper builds are already on the lower end of 'Medium', for the same price of one console you get a much better computer, that's a a fact.

No. You upgrade an existing computer, then maybe, maybe not. You don't buy a new one for $400 and comfortably beat the PS4.

That's the beauty with PC we can have: Ancient-gen,Old-gen,Current-gen,Next-Gen or Future-gen
Tho the majority will fall in the first two brackets!
